If a 18 year old can't see the differing directions of UT and Auburn, then I question his intellect.
Could the argument be made though that AU while struggling means they have a lot of spots and playing time available? When UT struggled fans said they didn't understand why recruits didn't jump on board because they could play early here. I don't think it would then not fit or make sense the argument would work at other schools.
Tennessee would be the smart choice. Brown could make a similar impact to Tuttle before he got injured. He was getting meaningful snaps and we always need depth on the D-Line, especially in the SEC. Not to mention he'd be playing for Stripling whose one of the best D-Line coaches in the country. Right now Tennessee is trending upwards while Auburn is trending down if you're talking about field results. There's a lot to like about Tennesee right now if I was Brown.
Gabe Wright?
That's 3 top d-linemen in the past 5+ years.
You win some you lose some.
Wright isn't an elite DLinemen at all. He was a highly ranked recruit.
We didn't get in on Lawson till late.
Lambert played ok 1st year, hurt this year.
So in reality we didn't miss out on much.
Don't forget Carl Lawson was picked to be 1st team all SEC this year by the media after coming off of a major injury...ended up with 1sack in 7 games. Has a total of 5 sacks for his career.
Maybe we should let Auburn beat us out for more of these elite DLinemen.![]()
As a Vol fan I want Brown to sign with Tennessee. As a Vol fan I can also see the reason a guy like Brown might choose a Georgia or an Auburn. We are up, they are down. Remember UT was down even just last year. A new coaching staff and playing time made recruiting a lot easier Butch's first couple years. We expected recruits to see the opportunity at UT. I don't think its strange at all to see Georgia and Auburn to an extent in that position now.
UGA went 10-3 last year. Don't see how that is considered 'being down'. They were fools to fire Richt and start over with Saban's clipboard holder.
If a 18 year old can't see the differing directions of UT and Auburn, then I question his intellect.
I remember Richt was fighting for a new indoor practice facility that was larger than a closet. I wonder if they still get it or hiring Smart saved them a few million dollars.
Yes they are still getting it. Take a look at Greyson Lamberts dad, he's a wall street guy. Rumor is around here in GA is that he gave lots of money to UGA for starting his son last year.
It also leaves a trail...if it's too much. "Not enough" money for a coach to risk his own credibility.
So it was a conspiracy of sorts. Butch takes cash from the Jumpers to play their son at LB. He then uses the lack of progression of the defense as reason to fire Jancek. Then hires Shoop. Hart was in on it. Can't afford the salary so the Jumper LB fund helps offset the cost of the hire. Ingenious Dave and Butch. Impressive.
