Elite Florida WR for the class of 17. Notable offers from LSU, Florida State, Miami, Clemson, South Carolina and most recently offered by Tennessee on Wednesday.

Still a relative newcomer to the recruiting scene, 2017 wide receiver D.J. Matthews wasted little time in making his presence felt at the high school level. Playing one of the most talented offensive units in the Sunshine State, Matthews finished his freshman campaign with 39 receptions for 640 yards and seven touchdowns. His exceptional performance on the gridiron earned him Freshman All-American accolades from MaxPreps.

Coach G networks the area pretty well. First Coast is a hotbed for D1 so we gotta get our foot in there somehow.

And since I was curious, I looked to see who signed the most D1 prospects (excluding Troy, UCF, USF, etc) @ First Coast from 2002-2015. Interestingly, FSU did not sign it's first recruit until 2008 but they have established a pretty clear pipeline since. South Carolina has a pretty nice pipeline going in the last few years, too. Florida & Clemson not so much. Miami has been a ghost and likely will so long as Al Golden is the head coach.

Wide receiver DJ Matthews has set up his official visit to Tennessee for the Alabama game. I know Florida is in the mix as well and he's currently committed to Florida State. We will try to catch up with him tonight for a full story.

“Everything in Knoxville, it was great,” said Matthews, who’s ranked the nation’s No. 52 overall prospect and No. 8 wide receiver in the 247Sports Composite for the 2017 class.

“Pretty much, I liked everything about Tennessee. It was cool. I liked coach Butch Jones a lot — just his personality and what type of guy he was.”

“Tennessee is definitely up there,” he said. “I like it. I mean, I don’t have a particular spot for them, but I can tell you I love them. I like everything about Tennessee.”

“I had a blast in Tennessee, actually,” he said. “It was fun. It was a different atmosphere.”

They want me to come right away and play — like, a different variety of ways to use me,” Matthews said. “They compared me to Antonio Brown. Coach Z coached Antonio Brown, so he was just showing me how Antonio Brown’s film in high school just looks so similar (to mine). Antonio Brown was a quarterback before he got to college, and Coach Z developed him as a receiver when he was at Central Michigan.
