The top-100 junior running back from Columbus (Miss.) High School said he’s hoping to visit Tennessee in the coming months, and while he has yet to name a formal group of favorites, he said the Vols “would be in my top five,” along with Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Missouri.

“I just recently got in contact with them,” Hill said Sunday at the Atlanta-area Nike The Opening Regional at Buford (Ga.) High School.

“That’s a school that, if I had a top five, they would be in my top five.”

The 5-foot-11, 207-pound Hill said he has heard plenty from Tennessee over the past “couple weeks,” with running backs coach Robert Gillespie — a fellow Mississippi native — recently having stayed in contact with him.

Hill said his “chemistry” with Gillespie and some of the Vols’ other coaches is one of the reasons they’re high on his list among his eight early offers.

“He did tell me his background and how much we’re alike, and how many people stayed in Mississippi, but he took a different route,” said Hill, who’s ranked by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 86 overall prospect and No. 7 running back in the 2017 class. “Me and him have conversations, like, once a week.”

Hill said he has yet to visit Tennessee, but he’s hoping to make the trip to Knoxville in the coming months — perhaps sometime this summer, when he will be “freed up from school.”

“I don’t know when,” he said, “but I’m going to get there.”
