Jay Urich, Wren, Dual-Threat Quarterback

Jay Urich - Hudl

"New QB offer...Jay Urich, South Carolina commitment. Visited a few times this summer.

I wonder what this says about where they are with Bubba Thompson."

Of Bubba Thompson, CJ Lewis and this kind, his film is far superior. In fact, he actually looks like a college QB in his, whereas the other two look like complete projects.

Urich has a strong arm, and is very accurate. He has a bit of a strange wind up but still a quick release. Would like to see him shorten the wind up.

He's elusive and fairly fast a runner. Capable but not elite by any stretch as a runner.

Interesting that it looks like his HS runs a very similar offense to what we run. Lots of zone read elements, and also a great deal of roll out. Looks like his OL is shaky so he is forced to make a lot of plays on his own.

Would need a redshirt year to put on some weight, as he looks thin. But that is just about any high school kid.

In sum, this kid would be a really solid pickup and is better than the other options it appears we are pursuing. JMO.

Well this year is pretty much just picking some depth at QB, I doubt anybody but JG plays QB for the next 4 years unless Dormandy does next year.

Wonder if there's any chance Tua decommits since Hurts has that job on lock? Maybe we can get a shot at him

I think he'll fit in just fine then.

What an offer list !!

If you look at them all about 1/2 is smaller mid-major schools. In my opinion, the only reason to go after & get this kid is if we let C.J. Lewis go in which we probably are going to do that. It would be between Bubba Thompson & this kid.

I would take this kid for two reasons. He is a 3* while Bubba is only a 2* & Bubba is smaller than Urich. We get one of these two until we get Fields hopefully on board for 2018.

I just find it hard to believe we don't get a single QB out of the 2017 class. Lewis is 95% probably gone considering he got beat out in high school at starting QB so he should be gone because he didn't even play the position this season at all. I'll take this kid anyday over what we've offered to date at QB for 2017.

This kid is the #23rd ranked Dual-Threat QB while Bubba Thompson is down much lower at #150th Pro-Style QB.

I'm not trying to start anything but are you serious with the "I'll take him because he's a 3 star and the other guy a 2" stuff? It seems overly simple for someone with your apparent passion for recruiting.

Do what? Most on here would say the same thing. They would prefer to have him as a 3* instead of Bubba as a 2*.

That's normal thinking buddy if you know anything about recruiting. So, you would rather have Bubba as a 2* who is smaller than Urich who is a 3* & bigger?

I would rather have the better football player. Rankings are subjective and hardly definitive, particularly when looking at lower ranked players who are not scouted as much.

Well, the better QB in this case in my opinion is by far & above Urich. Perfect height & weight. Dual-Threat QB. I'll take him in a heartbeat over Bubba myself.
