'17 TN OL/DT Trey Smith (UT commit 12/6/2016)

Richmond! Let's hope he gets it together. We've really struggled with our O-linemen recently--just not good.

Remember that guys that play LT in the NFL make a shatload of $$$ and the reason is because it's so hard to play when you're usually put against the opponent's best pass rushers. If Richmond is getting good reviews by the end of this season then that'll mean that he's soon going to be a promising future NFL prospect. That ain't too damn bad for a redshirt freshman.

How do lower echelon teams even field a 5-man OL? Serious question.

Do they recruit guys who are 6'6" 230 lbs with long wingspans and then just beef them up over 3-4 years before they can finally play? Or are they all essentially playing guards at tackle?

Correct, look at guys like Eric Fisher. Butch is doing the exact same thing. He's finding guys who are pathetic linemen at a smaller weight then bulking them up. Neihaus and Tatum are perfect examples.

I don't think Tatum is going to be pathetic at all. Neihaus we will see.

Drew has some excuses with being a redshirt freshman but Thomas and Robertson getting beat like they did is embarrassing. Definitely need to clean things up on the OL. Hoping chance hall comes back soon and gives a boost

I went back and watched the offensive plays several times, watching each lineman. Was shocked at how many times Robertson just totally whiffed or didn't end up even trying to block someone.

Yes they find a lot of guys who are basically tight ends and then rs them and get them in the weight room. Hopefully by the time their a rsjr or rssr they are strong enough to compete

My school was pretty small and w had guys come in not more than my size (180) and then they'd be 60 pounds heavier after a few years

Unofficial visit to Ole Miss, hanging with Cam Akers. I'm sure recruiting Cam to Ktown.

I hope so but I must have missed the part where Trey actually committed to the Vols. I think he does wind up a Vol, but in recruiting you never know until the ink is signed.

If he is recruiting Akers to Knoxville, then I am all for that :)

The only way we lose Trey to Ole Miss is if they make him an offer he can't refuse. *Cough* $$$$$$$$

He would not be in 2 deep if he were on campus today.

Yeah I agree because most are predicting him to be a OG and we have plenty of OGs but hell they play Coleman Thomas at OT so who knows how this dumpster fire of OL coaching will do with him.
