'17 TN OL/DT Trey Smith (UT commit 12/6/2016)

What else is he going to do? He wasn't coaching football when Butch hired him. He's not a hot coaching name who another school is going to poach. He was brought in for one reason only: to implement Butch's offense without putting his own stamp on it. He is absolutely a prime candidate for demotion.

Wouldn't even have to be a "demotion". I could see him as the Stripling of the offense. No one on the staff is more respected than our DL coach (who's always taken interim duties at Butch's previous stops). Somebody else (maybe two) would have to join the exodus tho.

Wouldn't being an OL coach for Tennessee be better than pool cleaning for another school?

If you really think Debord is going to take Mahoney's job from him (this may be the biggest thing to me...he's not gonna steal the job of a guy he's been working with) AND we'll be able to bring an OC who wants to keep the previous OC on staff, then I've got some beachfront property to sell you in Nebraska that I think you'll love.

Edit: for anybody who has trouble with reading comprehension, I'll say it more clearly. I think it is absurd to think that Mike Debord would steal the job of one of his current assistants in order to make room for a new OC or to think a new OC would be on board with that as well.

I think you're working on your own assumptions. DeBord's been in the business quite awhile. He's had to have taken an associate's job (more than once) along the way. Carry on you Nebraska beach real estate boss you! :good!:

You're working on your own assumptions too. I can guarantee you he's never fired an underling and then moved down to his job. It's an unprecedented and it will never and would never happen.

All the wishful thinking and emojis in the world won't make it so, butchna. Sorry :(

Herb hand might be available as an OL coach this offseason if we did do anything. He knows Butch and Shoop very well. Great recruiter, leader and OL coach

You misdirected my point...hold on...:) :yu: :yahoo: :aggressive: :gone: :puke5: :fireworks: :horse: Anything for my fans. :wink2:

He has TAKEN ON the role of someone he's "worked WITH". All the misdirection in the world won't change your ORIGINAL STATEMENT that I responded to...SORRY :hi:

I apologize for making you have to infer that the job Debord (current OC) would be taking (OL coach) from the person he's currently working with (Don Mahoney) in the scenario we were all addressing (Debord stepping down as OC to be OL coach for a new OC) is a step down and would be unprecedented.

I thought maybe you could connect the dots. I'll make sure to use more proper nouns leave nothing to be inferred when replying to you in the future :hi:

Don't get all hurt because this is a different situation and you can't handle it. DeBord is happy teaching and working in football meaningfully. You're projecting (maybe your own) ego and pettiness onto him. You said "unprecedented"? I know there are higher level examples of such, but a relevant one is Dale Jones. Took a lesser role as LBs coach after holding the DC position at Appalachian State. And he's reasonably young with more years ahead of him than DeBord. There! Now we can be friends again. :)

I am not talking about stealing the job. However, what if Jones lets Mahoney go and offers the job to Debord? Then he considers bringing in a new OC. I dont see why Debord would have a hard time with that. Maybe Debords talent resides in OL coaching? Maybe not. I honestly dont know. But it does seem like his offense lacks severely in creativity.

Nothing new, just confirmation.

The No. 1-ranked player in the ESPN300, Trey Smith, confirms he will be at the Florida/Tennessee game on Saturday. Smith has a top 6 of Tennessee, Ole Miss, Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Notre Dame. 5-star DB DeAngelo Gibbs will also be in attendance. Obviously a big recruiting weekend for the Vols.
