i was in neyland yesterday, and when they started turning it around against florida, it's just a feeling like no other, smith told tennessee prep weekly in an interview that will air in its entirety later this week.
imagine about 100,000 people and a couple thousand outside the stadium just screaming at the top of their lungs. You can hardly hear. Your ears are ringing, and it feels like theres an electric current in the stadium. Its indescribable.
my dad and i have evaluated a couple schools, smith told the radio show. we actually had a sheet, and we marked on a system of 10 the coaching staff whats our relationship with them? the success in that program, the overall feel of the program. We didnt really do the game-day atmosphere, the emotional things. But we sort of just sat down and evaluated each and every program in my top six, and the programs that stood out, were just going to take official visits to them.
for instance, next week were going to ole miss for an official visit (for its game against) memphis. We just sort of evaluate each school. We really look in-depth for what each program has to offer. So from there were going to take officials, and from there im ultimately making my decision.
sounds like a bright kid. he'll succeed at tennessee. No other school has a chance.
"It was honestly one of the most unique experiences I've had in my life," Smith said. "Being able to go to a football game in that type of venue and being able to experience all the Tennessee fans to that magnitude was awesome. There were 150,000 fans and about 70 percent of them were Tennessee fans so a lot of them recognize you."
"I was able to sit in during their film session when they were analyzing and breaking down the film and grading players and it was cool to see how they graded. Coach kept talking about 'T-tough' clips," Smith explained. "Like how Jauan Jennings took down that defensive back against Florida, or watching Dylan Wiesman be relentless on tape, that shows the type of players Tennessee wants and what they're trying to build down there."
"It was huge finally seeing them take that bigger step. This is a year they are expected to have success and the results are showing on the field through their play," Smith said. "I remember two years ago I went to the Tennessee-Florida game, and it was a big defensive game, a heartbreaker, and most of the fans were depressed and had terrible spirits. "So seeing that and the difference in the two years and seeing the fans and how after the game they were celebrating, seeing how students acted and all their passion, it was a pretty special moment."
"I think my comfort level around them is pretty high right now. Obviously, when you're in contact with people that many times you build a relationship," Smith said. "My relationship with coach (Butch) Jones has been stronger. I've been calling him a little bit more and messaging him more. I've always had a good relationship with coach Mo and coach Strip. And I'm getting to know all the coaches, too."
"Just talked with Trey Smith...
He said the visit was really good. Got to watch film with the coaches for a little bit two out of the last three Sundays.
Mentioned how big the win was for the program.
He will take all five official visits this fall before making a decision on Dec. 6. He will be back at Tennessee for the Bama game for an unofficial and will save his official for November in all likelihood.
Has an OV to Ole Miss this weekend and an OV to Notre Dame set up for Nov. 19.
I think Ohio State and Alabama get the other two.
Don't think I'll get the full story finished before Inside the Fort but will have it up as soon as I finish it. May be a little after the Fort."

Speaking of that, Malone, Jennings, and Byrd are stepping up. Hope WR recruits are paying attention!
I think that is no small part to the fact that those 3 are dominating the majority of reps at WR instead of the constant 8-9 WRs rotating in and out. Why it took so long for that staff to arrive at that conclusion, I don't know.
