'17 TN OL/DT Trey Smith (UT commit 12/6/2016)

There's nothing really to update right now. He takes a visit to Alabama this weekend and has Notre Dame and Ohio State visits set up for November.

And he will find time to go to Tennessee for an official visit at some point in the next eight weeks.

Cool story bro moment, my best friends nephew played against Trey last week, they got beat 48-0, he went head to head with Trey bout 5 times, now this kid is younger and smaller than Smith, but he is 6' 265 and will probably make best of the preps and and all region as a sophomore. He said there was no way to get around, he was to strong to go inside on and to quick to rush outside. They have a couple of 4.7 guys that they tried to speed rush with and Trey would easily beat them and swat them like flies, these were 200 pound guys, not the typical 150 pound small school kids.

It was good for the Vols to have Trey Smith back on campus but now it gets interesting with Smith. He takes a visit to Alabama this weekend for when the Tide take on Texas A&M and has visits set up to Ohio State (Nov. 26) and Notre Dame (likely Nov. 19). That leaves a couple of dates for Smith to make his official visit to Tennessee, but the ND visit isn't set in stone.

It will be interesting to see how this next month with Smith plays out as he's kept his official visit plans close to the vest outside of his recent visit to Ole Miss, his upcoming visit to Alabama and his planned official visit to Ohio State for the Michigan game.

Conceivably, Smith could officially visit in December if he needs to.

“They are just telling me that there is a definite need along the offensive line,” he said. “I look at every college about the same, just wherever I go I know I’ll have to compete. I don’t want to say they are thin at tackle but they have struggled at times this year. Obviously, they are trying their best at the University of Tennessee. They will get it turned around eventually.”

When asked if Smith is leaning to a particular school in his own mind, the No. 1-ranked player in the ESPN 300 didn’t hesitate to answer.

“Yes sir, I have,” he said. “The most important part is just taking more visits and getting more familiar with the campus and staff. To me, the main factor is life after football. There are lots of opportunities that come after playing the sport. I want to see what the school can do for me and the opportunities it can provide.”

Jeez. Beat Florida and Georgia in the same season for the first time in 12 years and that's the response we get from recruits!? Hopefully he's just talking about the tackle position.
