Sam Ehlinger of Austin Westlake...see Drew Brees & Nick Files. He is now being coached by Todd Dodge (former Southlake Carroll HC, 3 NCs and '04 NHSCOY)...see Chase Daniel & Greg McElroy. Not much national press on him yet because he is only a Soph. Lost his first game State Ranked SLC and won his second game at home vs State Ranked Temple. Kid is the real deal.

Fair amount of positive buzz about Ehlinger, think he's on par to have a break out season and rack up some offers. They were saying he was better than the varsity QB last year but they kept him back. It would be nice to get in but an Austin QB is going to Texas if they offer, book it. Baylor or A&M would be a good fit as well if Texas doesn't offer.

While I normally would 100% agree things are weird in Texas right now. Texas is easily only the third best school in Texas right now

Hey guys I'm just here to chime in on young Mr. Ehlinger and tell you guys a little bit about him. Ehlinger is already 6'2 205lbs and he's absolutely lighting the world on fire at Westlake in his first Varsity season. Not only does he have 15 TD's through 4 games but he's accounted for 75% of Westlake's rushing offense. He camped at LSU, Auburn, and Baylor over the summer and impressed the coaches so much that he got a private workout with the coaches at each camp. An offer from Auburn may have to wait a bit, but Baylor might offer him any day now. He was clocked at 4.53 at the Baylor camp which is blazing fast for a 15 y/o kid with his kind of bulky frame. Ehlinger is already considered to be perhaps the best player Westlake has ever seen (yes I'm aware of Brees and Foles) and he's only the second Sophomore to ever start under Texas HS Football coaching legend Todd Dodge. He could have started last year because he was plain better than Severt (SMU) but they held him down because Severt had earned his chops.

The greatest thing about Sam is that he's mentally amazing. Forget his athletic ability and ability to flat out spin the ball. He possesses a manual acuity well beyond his years in that he is a Quarterback in every sense of the word. Often times with kids with this kind of talent at such a young age their first inclination may be to make one read and tuck it and run, but Dodge trusts him to make all of his reads and check-downs before taking off. Not only that, but Ehlinger is a very intelligent kid and realized that football is not eternal; that an education will carry him to life after football.

As for the Texas thing... Yes he grew up a Texas fan, largely in part to his late father, but that doesn't mean he can't be swayed. Texas just recently got a commitment from Westlake 2015 LB Breckyn Hager (son of Texas great Britt Hager) and they've certainly taken notice of Sammy.

so he will probably stay in Texas at the other schools there ? has he talked to anybody from Tennessee yet ? sounds like he is a good fit for what CBJ wants to do

I honestly have no idea. He's pretty quiet about recruiting, but I do know that he's open to other schools. I do know he really likes Stanford for what they can offer him as far as an education goes in addition to football.

As far as I've been told, he's not heard from Tennessee yet, but he'll hear from just about every school in the nation before it's all said and done.
