UT offered on 2-27-17. Mr. Jones is now up to over 15 D1 offers to date. I know Bama is the favorite since he's from Tuscaloosa.

Coach Scott said we would go into others "backyards" and compete for talent. This is a sign they mean what they say. Can't get any closer than getting into T-Town.

If saban doesn't offer we may have a chance at landing him.

“It was a great visit — my best one so far,” said Jones, who’s ranked the nation’s No. 421 overall prospect and No. 31 outside linebacker in the 247Sports Composite for the 2018 class.

“It really exceeded my expectations, for real. I didn’t expect it to be like that. It was just an environment that felt like home up there in Knoxville.”

The 6-foot-2, 224-pound Jones, whose uncle is former Alabama linebacker Juwan Simpson, said he doesn’t have a group of favorites but admitted Tennessee would be high on his list among the nine teams pursuing him.

“It really helped (Tennessee) a lot,” said Jones, who also holds offers from LSU, Michigan, Mississippi State and Maryland, among others. “By me being up there for just a day, it really felt like home and something that I could really be a part of.

“I don’t really have a top (group) right now. But if I was to have a top, they would be in the mix.”

“A lot of people think that I’m just waiting for Alabama, but actually, I’m ready to get out of Tuscaloosa,” Jones told Volquest. “That offer could come, but it would just be like another offer. I’m going to have to evaluate it just like all my other options. But I ain’t stuck on Alabama.”

“It was a great visit,” Jones said. “My mom and dad didn’t get a chance to make it. I went up there with my auntie and my uncle. They loved it. They fell in love with Tennessee. I can’t wait to get back. The facilities were awesome. The coaches, all of them, were just great.”

Jones and Thigpen have developed “a really rapid” relationship over the last several weeks, and the two connect on a daily basis. They’re well past the initial get-to-know each other period, with Jones saying, “We just talk to each other everyday. "We’re almost on that second level now. We passed the initial (relationship) after Junior Day. Now we just talk like that’s my dad.”

The Vols have offered just a handful of other inside linebackers, and they’ve told Jones he’s a legit priority target for their 2018 class. Jones had a chance to sit in Butch Jones’ office during his visit, meeting the Vols’ head coach for the first time. Like Thigpen, Jones made it clear the Alabama linebacker is a prospect Tennessee is very high on.

“He invited me and the family in the office and sat us down and asked if we had any questions and how he really wants me to come play for Tennessee,” Jones explained. “They said they only taking a select few of linebackers, and they just really want me to come play for them. The spot is open if I want it.”

Jones will return to Knoxville with his parents for the Tennessee spring game. He's planning to narrow his list of schools down this summer and commit after his first home game this fall.
