Coach Jones and coach Gillespie started following me on Twitter, so I thought they might be getting close to offering me, Townsend said. Then I got a message to call them and they let me know that I had an offer. I'm humbled and blessed to have the opportunity.
Townsend knows a little bit about Tennessee thanks to a trio of Florida natives who he knows. I know Tyler (Byrd), Carlin (Fils-Aime), and Shanon (Reid). I chit-chat with Tyler some, and I have trained some with Shanon. I actually talked to Shanon tonight after I got the offer. He said he likes it up there a lot.
Townsend has seen his recruitment start to take off this month, receiving offers from UCLA, Arkansas and now Tennessee. I have good speed, good power, and I'm pretty explosive, Townsend said. Tennessee said they like my athletic ability, and athleticism. I think I'm a pretty balanced back. I think people are just starting to see my potential and what I can do at the next level.
A week from Saturday, Townsend will take in his first unofficial visit, as he's planning to see Central Florida. This summer, Townsend hopes to see the Vols. I want to take a few visits in the summertime, Townsend said. I would like to see Tennessee, Arkansas and Purdue in the summer. I want a good atmosphere and where ever fits me best.
