The question is just how many damn Dlinemen does Butch want? Because it seems we're just going to take as many as we damn well please.

In the VQ write-up on Chatman's fit with the Vols, VQ mentioned that the Vols are looking to add 6 DL this class.

You need DL depth in the SEC. That's one of the most important positions.

I think he learned a valuable lesson last season with our injuries on the d-line. It cost us ATL and a Sugar bowl

It wasn't the lone reason but a reason imo.

Def need several quality OLs and DLs in this league

When you go through last year when you lose studs like KMac and Tuttle, I would be paranoid as hell and would gladly get a baker's dozen of GOOD D linemen. IMHO, it seems like players classified as "athletes" are always readily abundant.

You're right. DT injuries weren't the only reasons. The LB corp was also decimated with all 4 LB in thd 2 deep either missing extended time (DKjr and McDowell), or lost for the season by game 3 (JRM and Sapp). Not to mention at least 1 other LB (Berry) miised at least a game. And add in losing Sutton for most of the season, along with other DBs missing games; I believe at least 5 OLs missed a game, and we lost our AA KO returner. AK missed the 2nd half of the Bama game and the SC game.

I don't ever remember anything like that. We were fortunate Dobbs and Barnett stayed healthy.

B I thought the defense was just ravaged by he injuries.

I completely forgot we were down to nothing but 3rd stringers at LB at one point last year

Everyone does. They just want to ***** and say we should win anyway.

You might get by if you're down to third string at one position or another. If you're down to third string in 3 to 4 positions and second string in a few more you're doomed.

But we are TN so we should win anyway. Oh and screw blue font.

the injuries compounding also really hurts. Losing the first two strings at any position is bad. but when you add in more missing starters at other positions it gets worse. You are trying to cover the losses in the DTs with guys who were 3rd string LBs, and then you are covering those losses with 2/3 CBs and Safeties too.

Is it true that Tn turned Griffin away? Rumor around Rome is Butch offered both (Griffin/Chatman) to get them up there, then wouldn't take Griffins commit?

Now, the rumor is a little more juicy than that but that is the jist, they feel Butch used Griffin.

My response was, honestly, that's recruiting and Butch got what he wanted. He got the Chatman commit w/o having to take Griffin. If I'm Griffin tho, I wouldn't want to go to Tn anyway. Not because of the school, but he would never play, go to VT where you at least have a shot and can be with family.

Recruiting is big boy business and these are paid professional salesmen recruiting kids. Just curious if you heard the same?
