Trevor Lawrence was born in Johnson City, Tenn., and grew up dreaming of playing at Tennessee, and he already has visited the Vols a few times since getting a scholarship offer from them almost 10 months ago. Hes planning to see them again soon.

The five-star sophomore quarterback from Cartersville (Ga.) High School told 247Sports Kipp Adams on vsportos SEC Recruiting Buzz podcast that his next visit will be a trip to Tennessee on March 26, and hes looking forward to finding out even more about the program he grew up liking.
Lawrence, whos ranked by 247Sports as the nations No. 1 overall prospect in the 2018 class, already has identified Tennessee, Georgia and Clemson as the three teams standing out most to him.
And while the 6-foot-5, 196-pound Lawrence already is high on the Vols, he said hes looking forward to just getting to know the coaches better, taking an in-depth look at their program and trying to just make sure I can trust everyone there and feel comfortable there during his planned trip to Tennessee next weekend.
I know I already like it, he added, but its just which one I like the most out of those.
Lawrence admitted the fact that he grew up liking Tennessee is difficult to completely overlook, although hes doing his best to take a businesslike approach to the recruiting process.
It comes into play a little bit, but I think Im pretty good at blocking that out and just seeing whats the best fit for me not who I liked, said Lawrence, who already has received offers from more than 20 schools.
He added that his feelings for Tennessee remain in the back of his mind a little bit as he considers his college choices because that was, like, my dream to play for them when I was a kid. But now I would say it doesnt give them an edge over anyone. Well see.
Lawrences nearly lifelong love of the Vols is among the reasons they have been one of the favorites to land him since they extended an offer to him in May.
I was a fan of them, he said. That helps them a little bit. Their facilities are really nice, and they just got (coach) Butch Jones a couple years ago, and every year theyre getting a lot better. Their offensive coordinator, Coach (Mike) DeBord, Ive talked to him a lot and got a really good relationship with him.
The improvement Tennessee has shown under Jones also has caught Lawrences attention.
I think theyre getting a lot better, Lawrence said. Theyre going in the right direction in their program. Im looking forward to seeing what they do the next year or two. I think theyre setting (the bar) high, and I think the goal for them should be to win the (SEC) East.
While National Signing Day for the 2018 class still is almost two years away, Lawrence currently is hoping to decide on a college before his junior season.
Hopefully Ill know by the end of the summer and commit this summer towards the end, before the school year, he said. Then, the next year, in the year or two that I have left, just making sure thats the right decision.
And I dont plan on going everywhere else after I commit. Thats where I want to go.
