D.J. Crossen, Dudley, Cornerback

Dwayne Crossen - Hudl

Vols haven't offered yet but I'm guessing they will soon. He's visiting UT this weekend for Junior Day. He committed to UNC last summer but decommitted a couple weeks ago, after Coach Warren left for Knoxville.

“I have been contact with coach Warren a lot,” Crossen said. “Coach Jones hit me up this weekend. I'm coming up there this weekend for their junior day."

Crossen currently has offers from Kentucky, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Purdue, Wake Forest, Duke, Purdue and Maryland. The offer from North Carolina came from coach Warren when he was in Chapel Hill. In fact, Crossen committed to Warren and the Tar Heels back in August, but has backed off that pledge. “Coach Warren leaving was a main reason I de-committed,” Crossen said. “I also felt I committed too early without seeing all my options.”

While Crossen talks regularly with Warren, he also knows a lot about Tennessee and is hoping to get a Vol offer soon. “It would mean a lot,” Crossen said. “I liked Tennessee a lot before coach Warren got there. When he got there there that was a big boost. Emmanuel Moseley went to the same high school and has been a mentor for me. “I camped there last summer. I saw their facilities a little bit.”

Saturday, Crossen will see the Vols again and this spring he wants so see more of the schools that have offered him like Louisville. Each stop he makes and school he sees, Crossen is looking for one thing.

“What's most important is taking football out of it,” Crossen said. “Could I be happy there without football. How comfortable am I there? Can I be comfortable there without being an athlete. Things like that are what's important.”

Trying to figure out how the #26 ranked CB in the country is a 3 star. Oh Rivals.

They'll add more 4 stars next update after spring camps. Same with 5 stars, only 15 right now but they'll end up with 30 5 stars, maybe more.

Example...Greg Emerson is ranked #20 nationally but not a 5 star. If he stays ranked in the top 30 nationally, he'll be bumped to a 5 star very soon.

That's what I get for getting caught up in such a silly subjective system. Shame on me.

I don't know why but I like seeing corners who have a va Tech offer. Seems like Bud Foster always has solid defensive backs.

I'm worried about his turning abilities with that neck brace on.

We haven't had a CB turn around in 5 years so it shouldn't be a big concern.

On a serious note, though, I like the kid's height. I agree with the posters who mentioned having tall DBs and those who have been offered by VaTech.

“I knew that getting the offer this weekend was a possibility, but I didn’t know that it was for sure going to happen, so it was pretty exciting,” Crossen said. “That wasn’t the reason for my trip though, I had been wanting to get back to Tennessee and see more than I got to see at camp last summer.”

“I already knew coach Warren pretty well before he got to Tennessee, so I would say we had a pretty good relationship going already,” Crossen said. “I really like him, it helps that he’s there at Tennessee.”

“It was a really good trip,” he said. “The facilities stood out the most, everything was really nice. I feel like I got a good sense of everything that’s there for you as a student athlete if you take advantage of the opportunities. “The coaches that I spent the most time with were coach Warren, coach Shoop and then coach Jones, we’re just building those relationships. It was good.”

Crossen has upcoming unofficial visits planned to Maryland and West Virginia to take in junior days. He added that there was ‘definitely a possibility’ that he’d be back in Knoxville to take in spring practice in the coming months.

Crossen visited Tennessee for the first time last month, and he said he’s intrigued by the Vols for a couple of reasons.

Vols defensive backs coach Charlton Warren previously recruited Crossen for the Tar Heels before his decommitment in late January. Crossen reopened his recruitment just days after Warren left for Tennessee.

“First off, the (Dudley) alumni that go (to Tennessee),” Crossen said. “(Vols cornerback) Emmanuel Moseley, I’m pretty close to him. He plays cornerback, as well. Coach Warren, who was formerly at UNC, the DB coach, he’s now the DB coach at Tennessee, so that’s pretty interesting, as well.”

We appear to have a real legit shot at landing this guy. I'd say 90%+ if I was guessing. He seems to like the new coaching changes especially the secondary coaching change in Coach Warren. Might just be our 3rd commit for 2018 coming here soon enough.
