If Butch could coach as good as he recruits, he'd be one of the best coaches in the SEC. I really hope he keeps the momentum going and kicks ass on the field this upcoming season.

I think it should be illegal for sites to assign star ranking to kids until their junior year. How can you possibly know?

It's a God given talent just like anything else. Some of us just know talent when we see it.

He needs to get/keep a good corps of coaches on his staff. Look at Fulmer. Other than Florida & Alabama, Cutcliffe coached well. Fulmer let Cutcliffe do his thing and it worked out well. We had 300 yards passing in most games and 150 yards rushing in most games, when we were hitting on all cylinders.
The problem with that is that when you get a good assistant, then other programs want to hire them for a head coaching position....
Since we know that bUTch's shortcoming is coaching on game day, then he should hire some good X & O coaches to do that. and bUTch can be a C.E.O. of the team.

I see your point of view, newt, and it's very true that in just a couple of years, those illustrious ratings...for some of them...just won't hold up. IMHO, here's why I think doing this is helpful: By ever-growing proportions, there are far more eyes on these youngsters, peering about earlier and earlier during their fledgling careers. Now, look at these kids that're listed as a group...so many of them with early-assigned 4 and 5*s...and imagine how outstanding many of them are going to be a couple years later by NSD? Some will go up. Some will fall short. Some will maintain current status. Right? May as well get a leg up by knowing who to look at...and who's attention to garner so your school can lure them in come their final prom. I like knowing who's up-and-coming as sophs and juniors and, hey, you know a great portion of the true future studs most likely are coming out of this listing of early-touted phenoms.

I just think its a fallacy to assign ratings to kids who really haven't played the game long enough and by your own admission are at the very beginning of their "fledgling careers." At this point the majority don't even have ratings anyway because no one has even seen them play. Its very unbalanced and created for recruitniks with no real basis. Its just a bad trend and pretty soon 6th graders will have star ratings.

I think it is a little ridiculous to give them ratings until after their Junior seasons. However, these kids are getting private instructors as early as 5 years old and by the time they hit HS they have been studying and learning the game for a decade. Some of these kids have extremely high football IQs and it is obvious in their play as freshmen and sophomores. It is scary to think how much time and money goes into these kids' football careers before they are able to get any sort of monetary benefit in the form of a scholarship.

My wife's niece has been paying for private baseball lessons for her son since he was 4!!! Kids barely have enough motor skills to feed themselves without making a huge mess at four and this boy was taking private baseball lessons!!! It is INSANE!

My six year old is a lefty....I'm thinking it's about time to hire a pitching coach.

You'll have to have another and start playing catch while they're still in the womb.

My oldest has been playing football since he was 5. He is 13 now. Haven't had any private coaches yet. Most of them down here only work on agility for the younger kids. Next year I may check into one to see about teaching different skill sets. He typically play MLB and RDE. I coached all of his teams until he played middle school ball. We moved to be in the best school district in the city with the best football program. He is a decent sized 7th Grader at 5'5" 135lbs. Medically, I can't have him lift yet until 14. Hoping he grows to at least 6'2" to 6'3". I can put good weight on him.

What's he rated? Hopefully not a 3 star!
