Tennessee continued its dive into the Louisiana talent pool when coach Jeremy Pruitt offered cornerback Tyrone Lewis on Saturday. Lewis was on a trip to Knoxville to see the campus, and he came away very impressed.

“Tennessee is in my top 3, for sure,” Lewis told SEC Country.

Missouri is likely in the top grouping, and Lewis is currently leaving the other spot open. The Vols have shot up his list after the visit. An offer can do that.

“Everything up there was good with the coaches and facilities,” Lewis said. “Just everything up there, it felt like home.”

Lewis plans to revisit Knoxville this summer and camp with the Vols. Talking with Pruitt was one of the highlights of the trip for the Hammond, La., native.

“They are trying to build everything up,” Lewis said. “They want to win championships and stuff. He said he wants us to help win championships with them. And in his words, he said I could play as a true freshman.”

The 6-foot, 185-pound Lewis plays cornerback and safety in high school. He believes he can run in the 4.4-second range in his 40-yard dash time this summer. Best of all, Lewis believes aggression and coverage are his two best traits. He loves to press wide receives at the line. It’s easy to see why Pruitt liked Lewis.

“Oh no,” Lewis said about whether Knoxville is too far from home. “Whatever school that is best for me and whatever coach I have the best relationship with. Yeah, I can move on, I’m not trying to stay in Louisiana the rest of my life.”

We made his top 3 with Missouri and...__________. Leaving that 3rd spot open is hilarious. :lolabove:

Not as hilarious as Missouri being in his (or for that matter anybody’s) Top 3. The second he stepped on Tennessee’s campus, Missouri should’ve been eliminated altogether imo.

I guess I don't get why it matters where a kid is from. I want the best in the country regardless of where they live.

I think we get hung up as a fanbase expecting Tennessee kids to have a precedence in roster creation. However, I want them to have to work as hard, and be as good to get an offer as anyone else.

I think too often the UT offer is expected to carry additional weight with Tennessee's best players, only to see them leave the state anyway. We gotta' turn things around so our offer is highly respected no matter where the kid is from. For now we gotta' get the best players regardless.

Sorry for the rant, just my opinion.

I don't care where they're from I'm just glad we have a staff that isn't afraid to go into some areas. We seem to be casting a wider net than the previous staff and that is a positive in my opinion.

I wasn't saying it as a bad thing I like it. I could care less if we ever sign another kid from the state of Tn. As long as we are winning with whoever ever we are getting. Hell i will take all kids from Russia if it means championships.

Agreed. Wasn't trying to single you out. Just seen a lot of comments about the new staff's direction geographically in regards to recruiting.
