Leading up to bowl selection many people were upset that we wouldn't be ahead of Bama and get the Sugar. The Orange was more appealing in the prime time slot and the opponent. Personally, I had hoped for the Orange because we have not been Orange Bowl Champions since 1939. Missing a shot at a NC was tough. That said this was a historical team. Until this win not since 1939...

Having been to the Fiesta Bowl when it was in Tempe, the Outback Bowl win over Purple Vandy, several Citrus Bowls and Peach Bowls at Fulton County, Georgia Dome and the Benz, this recent win at the Hard Rock and Sugar Bowl wins in 1985 and 1990, in my opinion, the Sugar Bowl experience is vastly overrated, particularly if it is not a playoff match up, I like Hurricanes at Pat OBrian's, but the warm weather, the beach, fresh seafood or Tex-Mex menus and unusual amenities for December in Miami, Tampa or Phoenix are highly preferable to the French Quarter, Harrah's, Lucky Dogs and the SuperDome any time of the year. Not sure I would want to go back to Nawlins for new years anytime soon.

I'd throw Orlando in there. May not be as highly prestigious game but waking up on NY day to 80 degrees and watching the Vols is pretty sweet

Wasn't at those games so I'll have to take word. But from a TV standpoint the 85 sugar was the best

Johnny Majors was often quoted that never had a game meant so much to so many, Tennessee hadn't been to the Sugar Bowl since it moved indoors from the old Tulane Stadium, Johnny won with Pitt and Dorsett in the dome, so he new how flat the field really was. When the team came onto the field that evening, amid the thunder from the Tennessee fans, Keith Jackson remarked "Ooohhhh, they've been saving themselves for this one", many VCR recorders were set to tape the game in 1985 and one should rewatch that tape from time to time, as Johnny had it right, that one meant so much to so many and was the first marker and footing for the success that would come in the late 90s.

I was there for NYE in 2014 when OSU beat Alabama. Way too crowded & dangerous. I was there this past June and it was worse. I went to LSU game this year & never bothered to go into NO during the 3 days there. Not the same city it was.

Completely agree. Also, I'm married to a KState alum and pull for them as my 2nd favorite team (albeit a distant 2nd). So I didn't want to play KState. Further, as you say, beating Clemson has more cache. I didn't think about the prime time slot at the time, but yeah, Tennessee got all the spotlight last night. Bama is overshadowed by the CFP semi's.

We got the better deal here.

It's definitely a I've done that before and while fun I don't find myself longing for it again.
