1993 Clover Helmet Sticker

That was 1992 wasn't it?

Maybe. I couldn’t remember and found the photo when I googled 1993 Tennessee football, so naturally I assumed 93.

Looks like he died right before the 92 season, so that makes sense. I was a kid back then and could not remember much besides the helmet sticker. Google was surprisingly unhelpful but I knew this site would have a quick answer.

Tim Kerin, right?
He was a trainer?
I remember this.
In his book "Tales of the Tennessee Vols", Marvin West wrote that Tim Kerin had opportunities to leave Tennessee for Notre Dame which was his dream job, but couldn't bring himself to leave Tennessee, because he and Johnny Majors had become such close friends.

Majors wouldn’t have attempted that early comeback if Fulmer wasn’t trying to stab him on the back.
Majors wouldn't have attempted that early comeback if Tennessee hadn't unexpectedly beaten Georgia and Florida. Shame on Fulmer for winning those games. An interim should never upstage the head man like that. That was blatant insubordination.

.... not until Majors came back. They began the season under Fulmer with upset wins over Georgia and Florida. The Georgia game on the road was a classic.
The Georgia game is one of the great vol games of the 90s. That 4th and long conversion was a top 10 play of that decade.
After shutting out LSU at night in Death Valley remember fans talking about the upcoming bama game being the biggest game of the majors era. Losing to arky however the next week is one of the most inexcusable losses in program history. By far worse than the USCjr loss last season. Arky only won like 4 games all year and we’re absolutely terrible in their first year in the sec. 92 bama is one of the greatest sec teams in history but think the game would have been interesting if we were both undefeated.

That was a 4th and 16 pass completion over the middle to WR Ronald Davis, who would later be converted to a CB (with mixed results). Strangely, Georgia dropped their coverage into a zone for that play and didn't blitz. It was a departure from how they had been defending us on passing downs. Shuler stood strong in the pocket with plenty of time time and delivered a strike ... Best game Heath ever played - college or pro.

Tim Kerin came to Tennessee from Pitt. John Majors gave Tim credit for his players' health & fitness. Tim's wife also worked for the Vol ticket office after he passed away.
Tim Kerin was also thought to be a sounding board of sorts for Coach Majors. I've read that Kerin had the ability, because of their history together with Pitt and the Vols, to persuade Majors to think twice (or even three times) before saying or doing something. It has been debated that perhaps Kerin could have talked Majors out of returning during the 1992 season.

I know lots of folks who believe what you posted. If Coach Majors had sat out the season and let it play out, we probably would have finished the season much better, Coach Major would have returned to coach UT for many more years, and Coach Fulmer (and many assistants) would have gone to another university to coach. All, JMO.........

In 1993 the Vols wore a clover helmet sticker with the name Tim in it. Who were they honoring?View attachment 536132
Tim & Zibby Kerrin were stalwarts around the UT athletics program(s) for many many years. Zibby (Tim’s wife) was Coach Dickey’s admin. asst. for years prior to and following his death. Really good people, both.
Do we still do the food drives @ Neyland in Tim’s honor?
