Fulmer announced today that two more players have been placed on scholarship for the 2006 season, wide receiver Stanley Asumnu and long-snapper Ryan West.

Wide receivers' coach Trooper Taylor was glad to see Asumnu rewarded for the effort he's put in since joining the team in the spring.
"Stanley is a kid that's well-deserving of that. He's worked his tail off. A lot of people thought that he was just doing it as a joke, or going through the motions, but he has worked his tail off," Taylor surmised. "I'm very proud of him and there's a place for him to help us on special teams, maybe in the Orange Area down the road, throwing it up to him. We're going to get a plan for Stanley because he's athletic enough to help us."

That is good news. I had heard that Asumnu wasn't going to be able to stay in school otherwise.

Fairly low cost I guess with all of the new recruits falling out.

It was just announced on WBIR in Kville that Satanley was awarded a scholarship today.
I merged the two different threads.

I think Stanley is a hard worker and they obviously think he can help the team whether it be on special teams or on the practice field.

It is interesting to me that we still have scholarships available after this. I heard today that we are still under our allotment. I belive the number I heard was that we only have 77 scholarship players (before the recent walk ons that have been awarded). Anyone else hear that?

i wonder if they'd let me be like the 4th string holder? i think i have enough eligebilty left to run through the T a coupe of times.

Can we now let Asumnu fade quietly into obscurity?

Never. He will catch a TD pass against Kentucky in the 4th quarter and it will be remembered as the play of the year. I'm being serious with this prediction.

If that's the play of the season, there are going to be some really disgruntled fans.

It could also be a punt that is downed inside the 5. I remember a few years ago, they did a recap of our top 10 plays and like 3 of them were Dustin Colquitt punts. Kinda lame.

Probably the 2002 season when Colquitt was arguably the most valuable player on the team. He consistently pinned the other team down inside the 15 or 10.
