1.What is the government to you?
Some of you all on this board act as if the US government is some sort of foreign entity that is all evil but last I checked the government is us WE PUT THEM THERE THEY ARE US FOR BETTER OR WORSE.
2.If candidate A wins the electoral college but loses the popular vote by 5-6million or so would there be a loud enough scream to change our electoral process?I know it's unlikely to lose the pop vote by that much and also hold on to the electoral vote but you never know one guy might win his states by an average of 2-3 points and the other might win his by say 10-12 points it's just hypothetical.

2.) The electoral college is a check and balance. In short, don't get rid of it!

1. It's more of a hindrance when it steps outside of its Constitutionally mandated powers.

2. The President was never intended to be elected by popular vote, so the popular vote is meaningless from a Constitutional perspective.

1. Government is provider of all things, especially employment.

2. Who cares as long as the elected party is all about equal outcomes for everyone and keeps paying the light bill.

1. Has been discussed in other threads - in short, it ensures constitutionally described rights. Defense, infrastructure, etc. Assuming it can efficiently solve all our problems is what many here react against.

2. Last week I could have envisioned McCain winning the pop vote but losing the EV. I would still support the EV system.

You no longer feel he can do this?
I was just wondering what would be the breaking point where this nation would flip out 10 million 15 maybe that is a huge gap to have a minority controlled gov.

we will always have a minority elect the president.

Bill Clinton never went above 49%, and voter turnout was said to have been only 25% of registered voters, so you're talking 24% of the population actually electing a President.

I was reacting to where his small lead in the polls was coming from. It's still possible. I don't see it occurring the other way (thank god because hearing more Dem whining would be unbearable).

I don't see the potential for a 10 - 15 million spread but losing the EV.

You will have to amend the constitution to get rid of the electoral college and you will not get the necessary 3/4 of the states to ratify it because of the disproportionate interest it gives to less populated states by allowing a vote for each senator.

As to the first question, I like the government. I'm glad we have it. I generally obey the laws and I get more out than what I pay in by my estimation. I have no reason to complain about it for now.
