I don't think Geno has lost anything. The game has changed and players are not generally content with sitting on the bench, particularly those who had offers elsewhere but chose UConn for whatever reason and are not seeing time on the court. It was inevitable when looking at his roster at the end of last season, given the returners plus incoming recruits, that some players would find themselves on the outside of the rotation. Depth helps but only five can play at once.

I have no doubt that Geno and his program wish she and the other transfers well. He's had several leave the fold lately but so has everyone else.

The transfer portal and NIL have changed the game of all college sports significantly. For basketball probably about as much as adding the 3 point shot. High quality and high caliber players are no longer going to sit and watch upper classmen/women play in front of them and wait their turn. Not many of them anyway. Coaches will adapt or they won't, recruiting the kids you have will become just as important as recruiting new classes. Would you or any kid in their right mind attend UCONN knowing Paige got a $1 million NIL deal and everything there is at the school including out of the coach's mouth is about Paige Paige Paige the next several years? I'm shocked Westbrooks hung in there but she'd pretty much burned every bridge she ever had transferring there.

Good points Remy, I concur...Does UConn still have the designated high five girl that runs up and down the bench high-fiving people after a good play?

They have way overdone this Paige worship stuff...Some seem to act like Paige invented basketball...She's a good player, but come on now, against South Carolina where was her greatness at, on a water break....

if she transfer now she have to sit a year since westbrook already transfer once if she takes year do not about grad. transfer players who have transfer once. she may want covid year

Geno has not lost his charm, if he ever had it. I think you are going to see a lot of players going through the portal who feel that they can get more playing time in a good program that might lack the talent of the UCONNs of the world. This is why coaches must become adapt at recruiting in the portal. Kara Lawson appears to have done a good job recruiting players from the portal to improve Duke’s program. Since we only have one recruit coming in next year, KJH needs to take a serious look at the portal to replace Dye, Green, or Burrell. That is not to say that Wynn, Stripland, Puckett and Miles are not good, because I believe they are. Justine Pissott also appears to be a very good recruit. However, if we can fine a post with height and athleticism for the 22-23 season that can play the 4 or 5 position that would great. A proven scorer would also be a nice complement. Hopefully, Suarez is ready to go next year.

Tennessee has endured as many transfers as anyone else over the years, and for various reasons. For the most part, it's not getting as much playing time as they'd like that makes them look for greener pastures.

But like everyone else is probably thinking, we ain't seen nothin' yet. Transfers are going to become so common and routine for every program that nobody will be able to ever again point fingers at anyone else and insinuate there must be something awful about that coach or program to spur kids to want to bolt. It's just going to be a much easier decision for a lot more players to make far more frequently.
