Strengths: Jarnell's biggest strength is his natural strength. Jarnell could not do any physical activity for three months, get on the basketball court, and still push people around. He was born with it. He uses it effectively. He is great having guys bounce off him and finishes well despite heavy contact. He gets very good post position by using his lower body and not his hands. He's excellent at catching bad passes in the post, which gives the ability to make plays most post plays could not. Stokes is a monster rebounder. He has great instincts. He locates the ball off the rim and uses his size to grab 50/50 balls, especially on the offensive end. He was the fifth best offensive rebounder in the country last year with a 17.3 offensive rebounding percentage. While he doesn't jump high, he gets up quick and has great ability to grab rebounds over traffic. He has solid post moves when he gets single coverage, using his strength to bully his was down low and is great at finishing with his right hand when traffic is low, and while not used very often, has a deadly running right hook. Jarnell is great at getting to the free throw line, second in the conference at free throw rate. Jarnell is very solid at paint coverage on pick and rolls, using his agility to hedge and get back to cover his man in the paint while stopping the initial drive. Jarnell is a solid passer in the post when players cut, and has accurate passes in tough spots.

Weaknesses: Jarnell is a poor free throw shooter, only shooting 56.7%. This hurts him because teams just foul him instead when he gets down low. He struggles sometimes to finish, especially with his left hand. He can't elevate over traffic, which leads to blocked shots and he loses his touch around the rim. Jarnell sometimes tries to use his physical gifts to rebound and on the defensive end loses a board he should get. Jarnell struggles with his double teams and is too indecisive. He tries to dribble out which just kills the offensive flow instead of quickly making his move. Jarnell doesn't have a jump shot, so it limits where you can put him in an offense. Jarnell is not good at recognizing driving and is late coming over to help, instead he tries to stay with his man to prevent the pass. He doesn't recognize the situation and also fouls too much for a player of his importance.

Final Thoughts: Jarnell is a former five star recruit, and his raw numbers don't look incredible. However, Jarnell is a fantastic player. He's a great rebounder, solid scorer, and while his defense has weaknesses, he usually is solid. He was the rock last season, and he creates more possessions for his team than anyone else in the SEC. He is going to be a key player and a double-double season is probable this season. Expect a very solid year for Jarnell with some help down low in Maymon.

I think people tend to forget how young and what an early start Jarnell has had at the collegiate level. Last season was realistically his Freshman season, although he was technically a Sophomore. I think we'll see a vastly improved player. He wants to get to the next level. He got his eval just like Jordan McRae. View it like a guy in his last season of his contract. You know he's going to give everything to impress those making that decision to draft him. Good luck to him, McRae and Maymon.
