Hypothetically, if you had around $1500 you wanted to throw into a vehicle with 200k miles, what is the bare minimum maintenance item you would focus on getting replaced/changed in order to get the car to 300k?

Depends on the vehicle. Probably a timing belt if needed, along with the water pump.

Id simply go with what the owners manual states for that interval.

If you go about replacing stuff just to replace them, you could be throwing away money.

Is the car running well?

I second the timing belt. Every 100K.

Plugs and wires, fluid flushes all around not just changes especially if it's auto tranny.

I second this plus ask the place that will be servicing the car if they have anything else they recommend for your particular area.

Agree with all the above, however, first, I'd take it to a reputable garage and have them pull an engine compression check, and put the gages on the Trans (auto). This will allow you to make a proper decision on how to spend the rest of your $$$$.

If RWD, have the differential fluid changed. This is probably one of the most neglected service points on a vehicle.
