I really started to follow UT recruiting in 2005 and specifically remember how excited I was about the 05 class. We were ranked 1st going into NSD and fell off somewhat. This was the class I thought would put us over the hump and lead us to another NC. Boy was I wrong. But IMO the defeat crushing defeat of UGA was maybe a start of a STRONG finish to the season. The season started slow with Jones and Moore being injured. That actually hurt alot more than I thought it would. Then Handcock.

When Lane said Crompton could be drafted I for one believed this is true. The guy has all the tools to be a great QB and Kiffin said no one on the team walks around with a bag full of notebooks like he does. He wants to be good and I think its starting to come together for him. We will see this weekend. Im just not too happy about him walking out on Peyton when he was trying to give him advice. I just hope there is something else that is not being said about it. Surely the guy wouldnt walk out on a UT ICON.

I listened to all the talk of lack of talent and didnt really buy into that. But I am aware of the lack of dept. I feel really good about going into Bama week.

Heres to a 9-3 finish and Capital One Bowl bound! GO VOLS BEAT BAMA!:dance2:

That '05 was a major bust. When you consider that only 18 of the original 32 from our '07 class are left here, you understand why our depth is terrible.

Crompton has become CLK's ultimate project.

I was calling for NS earlier in the season. Not b/c I thought Stephens was any better but just b/c the team needed a change. CLK stuck to his guns and if Crompton finishes the year strong it will be a huge step in convincing me and other fans that Kiffin knows best. Next time the fans can't believe what CLK is doing we'll give him the benefit of the doubt. If Crompton has a horrible finish it will probably be pretty neutral from a fan's perspective since odds are NS wouldn't have been any better anyway. We all saw that last year.

If Crompton finishes strong and gets drafted CLK's rep goes through the roof. I like that option.

Recruiting was really spotty under CPF. As you guys said there is definitely SEC level talent on the roster but it doesn't run two deep. I just perused the 2005 list and I'm amazed how many guys are contributing. Several of them though are contributing a lot more this year than last year.

Now let's not get the Kool-aid condensed too syrupy. Crompton would need to throw for 350 + per game with only about 3 int's and 20+ TD's the rest of the way to even have a chance... and the chance is about as small as it gets. NFL teams don't want head cases at QB, and deserved or not (probably a little of both) Crompton will be billed as that.

he has had it kind of rough in college. lots of changes and what not. maybe theyd see potential in a guy with all the pieces and the will to be good.

I just dont see JC getting a shot anywhere even as a UDFA. He still hasnt proven he can do anything from the actual pocket (all those throws against UGA were on roll outs). I just dont think he has the mental toughness or acumen to dissect a NFL defense. Can anyone honestly see JC dropping back against the Ravens or Steelers and having ANY chance of success? To even get signed un-drafted, he is gonna need to absolutely KILL IT the rest of the year.....and do it from the pocket.

GovolsXtra:

Kiffin Cut: Kiffin said quarterback Jonathan Crompton would have received a first-round draft grade if NFL scouts only watched the Georgia game.

This is a bold statement but I think anyone who goes 20-27, 310 yrds, and 4 touchdowns/1 INT would. But I like Kiffin backing up Crompton trying to build the guys confidence! :) GO VOLS BEAT BAMA!

You realize this was completely fabricated by a blog trying to get views. It is completely untrue and has been proven false by Peyton himself.

Thats why I need the EXPERT to tell me otherwise. I believe I said in the first post I hope there is no truth in it. Him doing that just didnt make sense. THANKS! :hi:

Crompton's stats should look like this if UT has a chance to win:
15-24, 160 yds, and 0 INTS. We have to run and have long drives that eat clock. And FINISH in the orangezone. Special Teams is where im most concerned; we cannot allow stupid mistakes to a team that needs absolutely no help, and the zebras could pose a potential problem for Slive's quest for a UF and Bama Title game of undefeateds.

That whole thing never happened. Crompton has a ton of respect for Peyton.
