i think 2001 miami's d with reed and company would shut down the usc offense just enough so ken dorsey, portis, johnson, and shockey could out score them.

Maybe, but I'd have to see it to believe it. Nobody has slowed down USC's offense in 2 years.

Yeah '01 Miami would probably take '05 USC. I don't know why they're using '05 USC as a comparison though. '04 USC was pretty much the same on offense and tons better on D. '04 USC would take care of '01 in Miami IMO.

IDK, I am tempted to say 2001 miami team was unbeatable and maybe the best team ever imo...

Notre Dame got the job done. Just got screwed at the end of the game. They kept Bush more in check then anyone. Didn't stop him but certainly contained him most of the game.

Meant to reply to GAVols in above.

Notre Dame held them down better than anyone else, but they still gave up 34 points.

I just checked . . . USC scored 600 points this year?!? That's nuts.

Almost forgot they got 34. Last TD got them over the 30pt hump. They should have been stopped but...

Bush ran for like 160 yards against Notre Dame... I guess that's keeping him in check when UCLA and Fresno state let im run for close to 300 yards, but he was still breaking big runs all day against Notre Dame. I came out of that game thinking he'd won the Heisman right there.

That's what Beano Cook always says. Most of the time, players win the heisman based on either playing at or having a great performance against Notre Dame.

eh but this is the 2001 miami hurricanes we are talking about here. I mean willis megahee was a freaking 3rd string back-up. thats how good they were. it was unbelivable. i think there are what 30 some nfl players from that team? remember this, it took 9 games before ken dorsey even got sacked. that my friends is unbelivable. tha o-line was so unstoppable that dwight frenny couldnt even get back there....... belive me he tried...

Man that 01 Canes team was unbeatable granted they almost lost to BC but come on there D was just unreal the secondary had Mike Rumph( 1st rd pick) Phillip Buckhanon(sp)( 1st rd pick) Ed Reed( 1st rd pick) Mo Sikes( undrafted) the LB's DJ Williams( 1st rd Pick) Jonanthan Vilma( 1st rd pick) D-lineman Vince Wilfork( 1st rd pick) william joseph( 1st rd pick)....offense they had Jeremy Shockey (1st rd pick)....Andre Johnson (1st rd pick) Bryant McKinnie (1st rd pick) Clinton Portis...Ken Dorsey...Willis Maghee(sp) Jason Geathers....That team was just loaded

How about 2005 USC vs. 2005 Texas!

ESPN making those comparisons between this USC team and '01 Miami, '95 Nebraska, etc. just made this night that much sweeter!

On a side note, if I was an NFL team with a top 5 pick, I would rather have Young than Bush.

If I was Houston... I'd still take Bush. Carr is a fine QB, he just needs an o-line.

As for ESPN's comparisons, I have no idea why they didn't use '04 USC. Over this three year stretch, the '04 squad was easily the best.

First, ESPN didn't use '04 USC because they didn't have to face Auburn.

Second, if I was Houston, I would trade for a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick (probably could get the #3's in those rounds) and draft offensive linemen. Bush isn't going to look any better than Dominic Davis with the line they have...if they don't trade down, then they need to pick Young...at least Young won't be on his back every play like Carr has been.

Do any of you guys find it odd that we seem to have a "team of the century" every couple of years?

Pretty weird how that stuff works. Just over the last few years USC was the best team ever, along with Miami before them, Florida State, Nebraska, and on down the line.

Wonder who will be next?
