Let's try to be positive here. The main thing needed is some serious" Get in the heads of these players" and let them know what is expected. There are Key areas where we have lots of experence. I see 13 players on Offence and 13 on D which had lots of playing time this year. We will be thin for now at LB but the front 4 have some guys who played a lot/ McBride, McDanial should be solid at DT. Mayo had a lot of snaps at LB and we know we can find others who can step in there. DB should be a strong point if we can get them to be more agressive in press coverage.

On Offence, even with Ainge, we return the back field and wideouts. If Sears and Smith stay we should have a solid "O" line with Ligon, Sears, Foster with lots of experence.

lets just hope the coaches can get them in the mind set of playing to the top of their game, and that the players never want this kind of season ever again.

IMO we could be a very good team next year. I'm not looking through rose colored glasses, but I do believe this and can't wait for it all to get started.

we have alot of players back but we have to look at them and wondering if those players back are actually any good. Speaking of rose colored glasses where will the NC game be next year, where does the game go after the Rose?

I think Ainge will be an all SEC caliber player next year. No one can question his physical skills it is his mental skills that are not sharp.

It almost seems like his mind gets tired and the decisions he makes become poor and his mechanics break down also.

As always the OL, WR, RB are loaded with very highly touted players.

On defense we get J.T. Mapu back, woohooo! Again the DL, LB and DB are loaded with very highly touted players.

The core of the team will remain intact next year and Tennessee should at least make a run for the Eastern Division if not the SEC Championship.

I believe we have enough talent to make a credible run at the SECE. If Cut and his assistants can instill discipline and determination we should do ok. We must have improvement in all facets of the offense.

All things considered an offense built around a healthy Arian Foster should make all the difference in the world. Yes I am assuming that the offensive line blocks.

The defense should not miss a beat. I do feel comfortable that a Hawaiian is at DT. Welcome back J.T. Mapu!

Therein lays the overall problem. The roster is loaded with very highly touted players but what comes of them?

On paper one would think the OL would be one of the best in the country.

The QB position will work itself out once a consistent running game is established the wide receivers start using stickem' on their gloves. Ainge will be a stud, bank on it! Any who one would not want to put Crompton into the same position and potentially ruin him also.

We lose a huge player at linebacker in Simon but adequate players fill the LB ranks.

Call me crazy, but the DB should be strength.

I was very impressed with the freshman that played this year. They produced more than most of the juniors who will be returning. My guess is all starting jobs are up for grabs next season which is a good thing if they handle the competition properly at the coaching level. Use it as a motivator, not as a monkey on your back. Ainge reminds me alot of David Carr, esp the season both are having this year, and the potential each has shown in the past. Both have a similar temperment, and both need to develop leadership skill, but both seem to be head cases right now, making huge mental mistakes like under/overthrowing 5 yard screen passes, and stareing down the reciever and not looking off the defense. I dont know what the solution is for either of those guys, but to ainge's credit, he is very young, and very inmature, so there is alot of room for growth. I think more than anything he needs to learn how to become a leader, then I think many of his other issues will fall into place.

Well i think we'll definitely be better next year, i can't see us having two losing seasons in a row, but i'm not going to be one of those that just says coaching changes equals instant success and we'll win the East and contend for the CC next year...

While we'll be better...you have to look around and see who else will be better/worse.

UF will be better...
UGA??? no Shockley? but still loaded at RB and WR...defense??
USC...would like to say this year was a "fluke", but beating UF and TN this year will load 'em up with recruits this spring...
Vandy/KY...both worse or same.

LSU...will be better so long as Miles doesn't screw it up and Auburn and ARK don't find FG kickers...
Bama...have had a couple of good classes, but lose Croyle...who's next?? defense should be good...
Auburn...see above...they just need a FG kicker...they'll be good next year (glad we don't play 'em!)
ARK...my sleeper for the West...they're so young this year...and their schedule was BRUTAL.
MISS/MS ST...see vandy/KY.

How do we fit in? probably 3rd in the East...maybe 2nd if we get a win against UF or LSU...I say 8-4...

Conf. CG next year? hm. I'll say Auburn vs. Florida next year.

I wonder if Mapu is going to be ready play?? I'm sure he hasn't been working out much on his mission and is expected to be back around June/July if I'm not mistaken. I hope he can hit the gym hard and get back into it.

Vandy is going to be hurting in the same way Bama is. Cutler is gone. He willed them to alot of touchdowns this year.

The Vols will make a championship run next year.

Coaching may not equate instant success.... but good coaching AND talent equate success.

Chavis seems to reload every season on the defensive front and at the linebacker position. He keeps the young players in the rotation so that they are seasoned when their turn comes to start. Mayo and Mitchell both looked good in spot starts this season at linebacker. The defensive secondary returns a ton of talent.

On offense, the offensive line returns a load of talent and should be in for some offseason training to get the weight down. With a new o-line coach (possibly Fulmer himself?) the o-line will be much improved next season. Cutcliffe will get Ainge into shape mentally and he'll put in a solid season. Foster returns and is averaging 148.4 yards-per-game rushing in games he starts. Anderson returns at fullback. Brown returns at TE. Meachem and Swain (top 2 receivers) return as well as Bret Smith (led the team in receiving touchdowns). If Kippy Brown is the new WR coach, this position will excel with this talent next season.

The schedule includes non-conference competition in 4 of the Vols first 5 games. The Vols get 2 non-conf games to tune up for Florida in Knoxville. 2 more non-conf games before a matchup at Georgia on Oct. 7. The non-conf competition to start the season allows the Vols to work out any kinks in the new OC and his offense. The Vols get Florida, Alabama, and LSU at home. The only tough road matchup will be at Georgia. The schedule is set up for a championship run. Go Vols!!!

Tennessee is instantly better by adding Cutcliffe and whoever he brings in. That is an enormous jump in coaching -- miles.

It will help us better evaluate our talent as well. It's hard to tell how good we really are -- or can be -- with the way they have been coached.

I agree, its really hard for any of us to evaluate anything with new o-line, receivers, and quarterback coaches coming in for next season. All 3 positions seem to have talent that underachieved this season.... or did they overachieve in 2004? And how will they respond to the new position coaches? The logical choice is to assume that since most of these players were highly recruited in high school, played decently in the seasons leading up to 2005, and are being looked at by the NFL scouts.... that the new coaching staff additions have some very good and deep talent to work with.

Remember, this past recruiting class should make much more of an impact during their second season.

Agreed. It's just not logical to think that our talent is not there: other great schools wanted them over the last 4 years; they have individually showed flashes of ability in the past; consistency and unified performance was a bigger problem than individual talent; the NFL is lookingl; and so we generally conclude that the talent is at least above average.

I think we'll be better for sure and back in the East hunt. How good? Let's wait and see...too many unknowns at this point.

Agreed, although I'm still a bit anxious about who he'll bring in for OL and WR. They can't be any worse though, right?

positions OL QB LB DE and DB i worry about.

thoughts?

OL= We should have Smith, Sears, Ligon, and Foster (who had lots of PT back. Also Brown at the TE position.

QB= The Jury is and will be out on that for a bit.

LB= Mayo, and Karl had lots of PT and we get the #1 JUCO LB in the nation next year.

DEMitchel and Reynolds should do fine there and we also have the #1 JUCO coming in there also.
In addition the T position with McBride and Mcdaniel and we should get Herrel back. All of that plus the others that Chavis will bring along should be fine up front.

DB= Wade, Stewart, Fellows, Morley Heffney, Campbell and Johnson even though he is small he did a yomans job in place of Allen. The DB may be the best we have had other than the 98 NC.

Again in MHO. We have a very good chance of being a good team.

The personnel will be there. The questions are:

How will the practice?
If they don't practice hard will they still play?
If they don't behave off the field will they play?
If they aren't in the film room will they play?
Will everyone on the team have to earn their position?
