I got my latest SI today covering the above subject.
There were lots of things happened in 2007 that were surprising and shocking to say the least, whether it was someone dying or a college upset in football or basketball.
As far a the biggest upset of the year, I'd have to agree that Appy State's win over Michigan was the biggest surprise.
Being ranked #2 in the college football polls each week wrecked havoc with teams as each went down to defeat each week. #1 didn't survive much better. I think at least 3 #1 teams fell from that spot.
Also only one college team remained undefeated in the regular season at 12-0.
In the NFL, who would have thought that a team could go undefeated and maybe one team might go winless. However, the Dolphins revived themselves and left the Tampa Bay Bucs in that category.
We lost some great people in sports in 2007:
Hank Bauer, Bill Walsh, Lew Burdette,Bowie Kuhn, Rod Beck, Eddie Robinson,Max McGee, Skip Prosser, Benny Parsons, Evel Knievel, Sean Taylor, Clete Bowyer.
NASCAR brought us some surprises during the year.
Dale Jr left DEI to go to HMS who won half of the 36 NASCAR Cup races this year with Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon winning 16 of the 18 races.
Jeff Gordon had a record 30 top 10's.
