Here are some names on the Vol radar for the 2008 class:

Guards
Tyrone Caldwell 6-0/180 Clarksville, TN
DeMario Williams 6-4/175 Culleoka, TN
Scotty Hopson 6-5/185 Hopkinsville, KY
Cordell Passley 6-2/195 Indianapolis, IN
Josh Henley 6-3/180 Nashville, TN
Derrick Mason 6-3/180 Memphis, TN
Jarvis Jones 6-1/160 Memphis, TN

Posts
Romero Osby 6-7/210 Meridian, MS
Al-Farouq Aminu 6-8/210 Norcross, GA
Bawa Manuri 6-11/250 Huntsville, AL
Carter McMasters 6-9/190 Chattanooga, TN
Phillip Juric 6-9/245 Chattanooga, TN

We have 4 schollys for that class and one commit(Cordell Passley). We will likely take 2 guards and 2 posts. A class of Hopson, Passley, Aminu, and Osby would be top 5 and maybe top in the nation since that could possibly be 4 5* players. Aminu and Osby are top 10 and the other two are top 50. Hat, do you know of any others that aren't on this list?

On another note, the top prospect of the 2009 class has the Vols on a long list of favorites. He is Renardo Sidney out of Mississippi. He is a 6'8" wing and is considered the best player to come out of high school since Lebron James(yes, better than Oden and Mayo).

That list covers any substantive rumors I've heard. '08 recruiting will come into much better focus after July. We'll know who the primary targets for '07 are and that will drive recruiting for '08. Also, the summer before one's junior year tends to separate the quality prospects from the less desirable recruits.

Another recruit on the Vols radar for the '08 class is Elgin Lee out of Memphis. He goes to my school and I've seen some letters sent by Coach Pearl and the staff regarding his recruitment. One of the assistant coaches came to recruit him during one of the games this season. He's a 6'3" shooting guard. He has great leaping ability and athleticism. He doesn't have deadly shooting and he tends to get lazy on defense but he can create any shot he wants. He beat ECS in overtime by taking a kid to the whole and hitting a floater from about 6 feet. And ECS lost in the State Championship to Brandan Wright. I think Tennessee is the only school recruiting him now but he should get a lot more looks and letters from other schools next year. I've spoken to him and I know he also likes Louisville and Florida.

Class of '09 news. Last season, on the same team as Eli Lee, two freshman started as well and I know they're being recruited by Tennessee. One is a 6'2" point guard named Gregg Wooten. He is an average shooter, great defender, hustles alot, and is strong at taking the ball to the whole. He was named to Memphis Best of the Preps as a freshman last season. Gregg and Elgin's teammate is Leslie McDonald. He's 6'5". He plays PF but in college will move to SG or maybe SF. He is a better than average shooter, great rebounder, and can jump out of the gym.

They went up to Knoxville to watch the Florida game and also have talked to one of the assistant coaches. One of our assistant coaches (I play with all three of them) just graduated from Tennessee so if he returns to be an assistant next year and in years to come, Tennessee might have a really good inside track in recruiting all three of them.

Any of you that have the Tennessee highlight DVD, you can see the three boys in the Post-game highlights against Florida. The cameraman begins to walk in the tunnel and he stops and right there they are. I'm going to try to get them to be serious about Tennessee in years to come. We definitely won't be the only team recruiting them when the time comes, but we are the first.
