It a shame that the tires are having more to do with the race than actual driver skills. Pitiful!

u think they will stick w/ goodyear, or open up the competition? personally i'd like to see the teams actually pick out their own tires, instead of one company supplying all the tires

I don't think NASCAR will open up the tire wars again. Competition in tires leads to faster not safer tires. They do need to take a look at other tire companies just to keep Goodyear on their toes. Just not during competition. I understand that keeping up with the changes to tracks and the new cars is hard, but with the money they are bringing in by leaseing tires for 1500.00 a set they can afford the right people and equipment to do it. They are not a fly by night company they need to be held to higher standards.

While I mostly agree with you, I think the lack of competition has led to stagnation in tire development by Goodyear. The COT has less downforce than the previous car, so loading should not be much higher. Having other tires available would force increases in research and development, and eventually result in improved tires.
