Honorable Mention: 1999-00 team.

That team much like this one benefited from good draws, but beat a 2 seed in Ohio State to make the programs first ever elite 8. Can this Tennessee team beat a 2 seed in Michigan to make only the programs 2nd ever elite 8?

Be kind of fitting to beat Michigan for our second Elite 8 after OSU for the first. This isn't football but maybe SEC will still > Big 10.

09-10 was probably more talented, however this one appears to have a lot more heart.

2010 team succeeded where all Vol teams before them had failed - win in the Sweet Sixteen to advance to the Elite Eight. That team had plenty of heart. The Michigan game would feel a lot less winnable, IMO, if this door had not already been broken down before.

2014 gets first prize if they beat Michigan and are competitive in the next round. Otherwise, they're second-best.
2000 had a nice run, but it ended with an uglier collapse than 2007, IMO. Losing to all of OSU's pros in 2007 didn't feel like a choke job, despite where the game was at the half.

I say this one because the 2010 team was squeaking by their opponents, while this team is just incinerating them.

2010 squeaked by San Diego State just like 2014 squeaked by Iowa. 2010 then incinerated Ohio. Then, they beat Ohio State.

2010 is our best ever until another Vol team reaches the Elite Eight.

Both are similar in that they started to play "refuse to lose" ball and show more heart at tourney time then they did during the regular season. 09-10 kicked off it's best player and had to learn to gel as a team and played their best ball of the season at tourney time. This year's team never really gelled or showed heart to win until tourney time. Both teams came together and playing their best ball when it counts.

2010 was a superb team. Maybe not as good defensively as the 2014 team is but better offensively. Don't forget they were 2 points away from a final four appearance. Let's wait to see if they can beat an extremely good Michigan team and reevaluate it then.

No silly! This is Volnation we never wait! Didn't you know we fired CCM and hired CBP with our petition just before the tournament? Although I have to admit Bruce sure looks a lot more tanned than I remember.

The 2009 - 2010 had WAY more player distractions. Tyler Smith was dismissed and other players were in a major dog house. (January incident) Negudu with his Heart thing early in year,, Josh Tabb leaves, etc.....BUT at the same time we had more expectations with the previous run. We also could play 10 players deep IMO.

I'd honestly say that the 2009-2010 squad had to overcome bigger deeper problems.

Trae was probably the only real big distracting point early this season.
