The list of players eligible for the upcoming Hall of Fame just came out and there are some interesting names on there. First timers inckude a modern favorite for Reds fans: Barry Larkin, one of the best second baseman in the 90's-Robbie Alomar, The Crime Dog Fred McGriff, The Big Cat Andres Galarraga and baseball's first great DH, Edgar Martinez. Returnees include Donnie Baseball, Lee Smith and the Murph. The favorites to get in are 'The Hawk" Andre Dawson and one of the very last 300 game winners, Bert Blyleven.

Two questions:

Who are your favorites from the 2010 list?

Who deserve to go in next July?

The class of 2010 will be announced on January the 6th.

baseball's first great DH, Edgar Martinez.
Has the guy that wrote this article ever heard of Don Baylor, Harold Baines, Frank Thomas etc?

I think the only first timer that gets in is Robbie Alomar. Hopefully, Andre Dawson gets in as well. The stats say Bert Blyleven should be in also, but I doubt he will.

Valid point on the article.

Larkin probably won't get in this go around, but I believe he is worthy of the hall.

Personally, I would love to see Mattingly make it, but I'm afraid that his health is what will ultimately prevent him from ever making it.

Barry Larkin is not a first ballot HOFer but he is most definitely worthy of being in the Hall. My favorite player of all time.

I agree 150%. Mattingly was my childhood idol, and no doubt one of the top players of the 1980's. If not for the back problems, he would have (in my opinion, of course) had the kind of career that made him a no-brainer. Instead, now he's a guy whose greatness is overlooked by those of us not old enough to remember, and overshadowed by some players who are now of questionable ethics (roids) who came in at the end of his career.

On a related note, I wonder why when you have a guy with borderline offensive HOF numbers, the voters totally ignore a player's defensive skills. That's why I also think Barry Larkin should get in, but I digress.

Larkin will forever be the shadow of the wizard. Granted I loved them both, but Barry is more than deserving enough to me to get in at some point while he is on the ballot. Might have to skip his speech though, because it will be a very long one.

I'm not big on Blyleven getting in, he was a good pitcher but his longevity has boosted the stats past the big numbers. He had a few big years, but the totals over a 21 year career where, for the most part in an era when things were better for pitchers than hitters, I have to say no. He's missing that dominant 6-8 year period as a top 5 guy at his position that i think is a bettr qualifier than career stats.

After the voters have proven themselves incapable of recognizing who should be inducted, witness their mindless oversight of Tim Raines, a Larkin snub will result in me putting them on the same ignore status the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield enjoys. Larkin should have about 3 or 4 more Gold Gloves, he was vastly superior defensively to Smith the last few years of Ozzie's career, and was the only 30/30 type shortstop around til A Rod and pre steroid testing Garciaparra arrived on the scene.
