Report: 2010 Pro Bowl will be played before Super Bowl in Miami - USATODAY.com

Is it a good idea or bad? I'm pretty sure if this is a new direction, it is conceivable to think this will end players on Superbowl teams playing in the game.

MIAMI (AP) — The Pro Bowl will be played one week before the Super Bowl in 2010 and both games will be staged in Dolphin Stadium, a person directly involved in the decision told The Associated Press on Monday.

"Plans for future Pro Bowls are not final, but we have stated publicly several times that we are giving strong consideration to moving the Pro Bowl to the week before the Super Bowl," said Greg Aiello, NFL spokesman. "We also have been exploring playing future Pro Bowls at the site of the Super Bowl as well as in Honolulu, host of the Pro Bowl since 1980."

Why not? It's not like it will hurt the game. The Pro Bowl is easily the worst of the major sports All Star games.

I agree with that, I rarely watch it. It seems though they could go in another direction, seeing as how you could have some of the best players missing the game because of the Superbowl.

It might work...

A lot of the guys playing in the Super Bowl already skip the game anyway though; especially the winning team. Playing the game at the Super Bowl site the week before, at least you could guarantee that the players from the Super Bowl teams would show up.

the Giants went to the Super Bowl and had 1 player last year.

no coach (with a team in the Super Bowl) in his right mind is going to let one of his stars play in a meaningless game the week before the biggest game.

Of course the Super Bowl teams' players wouldn't play, but at least they could maybe make more of a spectacle out of the game.

Dumbest thing i have ever heard... Even though i agree and believe it is one of the worst all star games in major sports it is a tradition for it to be played in Hawai'i. Plus it is supposed to be an acomplishment and an honor to play in it but if i was supposed to play the super bowl the next week then you could count me out

I think it's stupid. Usually a good chunk of the pro bowl roster comes from the Super Bowl teams. Now these guys won't play because they won't want to get hurt, they're going to miss getting their pro bowl recognition, and it's going to cost a bunch of them later own either when they dont get into the hall of fame because of it or when teams treat them poorly in either contracts or free agency because of it....pro bowl carries a fair amount of weight in contract negotiations

What I want to see in the future - and I know the Super Bowl site was decided well in advance - is if they'll come back to miami again as a site. It came down in a deluge that last time when the colts were there... if they hadnt already set the site, I think they might not have come back again for a while. I mean, that ice in Atlanta has kept them away from that stadium again even though it's domed

So just name the team as usual and then fill in for the 5-7 guys that have to play in the Super Bowl the next week.

is Dolphins' stadium in better shape than what's in Hawaii? It would almost have to be.

The Pro Bowl should be played on Madden. Have a tourney nationwide for four guys to play for the title and award the winners some cash and two tickets each to the Super Bowl.

Awful idea. They just need to axe the game altogether. Make it like Collegiate All-America game. Just name the teams and be done with it.

I do like the drills and stuff, though. QB's doing passing competitions, WR's running obstacle courses, etc.

I would think guys on bad teams that never/rarely make the playoffs or superbowl would consider it an honor.Barry Sanders when he played for Detroit, etc.

Heck, play it in late July in place of that preseason Hall of Fame game that they play.

They are probably doing this because after the Super Bowl, all the excitement is done, and some garbage game in Hawaii won't do anything. Now they can use this game as an appetizer during the two week wait between conference championships and the super bowl, and get a little bit of interest from some fans.

On one hand it seems dumb since it will automatically keep out any Super Bowl bound Pro Bowlers, but on the other hand it's pretty much the worst all-star game of the big leagues. So I can see why they are trying to drum up some interest.

I still don't think it will be much a big deal. It's just too different from other sports. Other sports can get away with having the game in the middle of the season, but the NFL can only have it after the season is over, and on top of that it follows one of the most hyped sporting events in the world.
