We went 18-13 in regular season.
Won only 1 SECT game = 19-14.
And had 4 really bad losses early -- Oakland, charleston, Charlotte, SoCal.
We didn't finish 2nd in the SEC.
We didn't humiliate the defending NC
We didn't sweep Florida.
And got a 9 seed in the 64.

I wish the RPI wasn't so heavily looked at...it's beginning to be proven how its too flawed to hold that much weight...a lot of other elements prove how we deserve a better shot than our RPI says.

SoCal made the tourny. We won the Preseason NIT and had a strong start.

RPI is very flawed
Too much emphasis on where you play rather than quality of opponent.
Start the season strong and it's hard to work your way down.
Start the season poorly and improve and it's almost impossible to work your way up.
Same story every year.

Sorry man. Really wish I seen it that way but it's for sure not the case.

- Oakland was heads and tails better than this years team. They almost beat Michigan State prior to knocking us off and had NBA talent.
- We beat Pitt @ Pitt (not exactly but it was in Pittsburg at least)
- We won the NIT Tourney and knocked off a Final Four team in the Semi's and a hard nosed-tough ranked Nova team.
- Uconn is a bubble / sweet 16 at best this year (no Kemba)
- You had 4 really GREAT road / neutral court wins last year (VCU, Nova, Vandy, Pitt)
- Not to mention...we took care of a very good Belmont team and beat Memphis in Knoxville

Really apples to oranges when you compare it.

Shaun is right ... I feel our season this year actually compares more to last year's Alabama team. They got left out of the tourney on the bubble, but then nearly won the NIT

Is this the main thing keeping us from tournament? If we would have won that game we would be a in the tournament right now?

IMO, the APSU is what is keeping us out right now. Lose to a crappy team at home early in the season. Triple whammy!

Not the main because there's a lot of losses that if they were wins we'd be in, but yes this is one of them.

The more depressing thought is that Oakland, coc, ap games are W's we are 20-10(10-6) and probably a projected 6 seed.

We should stop with all the comparisons. This team doesn't have near the resume that last year's team did. Oakland was an NCAA tourney-worthy team last season, not a team that has hovered around .500. COC was better too. USC made the tourney. There was no loss to a team of Austin Peay's ilk.

Furthermore, this is 2012, not 2011. Different year, different circumstances, different criteria.

Dropping 2 rpi 1-50 teams and picking up 2 200+ probably hurt us more than the AP loss.

If this team wins two tourney games but fails to make the field, it will be because of
the bad losses to austin peay and charleston. Austin Peay is 12-20--a bad team. Charleston is a little better but not good. If we win two and are competitive in the final (against) kentucky, a good argument could be made for us. And I think the fact that we've played well in the tourney in recent years will work in our favor. I think past tourney success helps--subjectively--with the committee when it is evaluating two similar bubble teams.

There are a lot of posters that I've never seen on here before that are acting like they know A LOT about college hoops...
