I'm sick of losing

I agree but I'm starting to find comedy in the fact that last year we needed just a few stops on D to have won several tough games. Now we lead the nation in INT's but can't buy a 1st down through the air. Where else does this happen to such yo-yo effect. I mean typically you have a team that sucks at x and they continue to struggle at x every year and so they work around it. We completely flip flop.

Well let's see. Our so called Great offensive line can't block. Our Quarterback can't pass accurately. Our Defense can't stop anyone. Our depth chart is low. But on the good side, our special Teams are the best I have seen in years and I like our Coach.

I really had no idea how bad we were going to be this year based on previous so called looser coaches until now. Now I know we are still three years away again from Greatness.

Pathetic

Actually, most of these numbers are very encouraging: most interceptions, top 5 in turnovers forced, one of the least penalized teams, etc.

All signs of good coaching.

This team has a habit of losing and it is hard to break that.
We will be just fine this year and go bowling.

So far we've played
@ #2 Oregon
@ #17 UF
Next 3 are
#6 GA
#13 SC
#1 UA

Thats is crazy in first 8 games 5 being against top teams. What do yall expect? Not to mention lost every bit of offensive points and yards and kept the worst D in UT history. Lol what do yall expect year 1?
This site is full of people that have no idea where we are as a team, they see new coach and staff an expect wins!

Im seeing exactly what I expected in year 1.

Except for his recruiting is very very impressive 2015 class already filling up with some really good players.

I expect 6-6 7-5 and that will be a lot of
improvement considering.

defensive stats are encouraging. 1st in INTS and 3rd in TO's. But close to last in giving away the ball on offense.

Looking at the dawgs, here are the areas where Georgia ranks low. Basically, they look horrible in passing defense, at forcing turnovers, and anemic in punt and kickoff returns.

That seems like an opening until you look at who they've played. We need our best outing in the pass game and a +3 turnover margin if we are going to win.

Total Defense

69th - 403.8 yards per game

Third down conversions

75th - 39.2%

Turnover Margin

84th - -.03 per game

Kickoff Return Defense

84th - 22.75 yards

Punt Returns

90th - 5.14 yards

Scoring Defense

93rd - 32.5 pts per game

Third down conversion defense

98th - 44.8%

Passing Yards Allowed

99th - 277 yards per game

Kickoff Returns

101st - 18.86 yards

Red Zone Defense

105th - 92.3% opponent scores

Passing Efficiency Defense

108th - 153.21 defensive rating

Turnovers Gained

109th - 4

Passes Intercepted

112th - 1

Please see the original post for updated Vols team FBS stat rankings after 10/5/2013 games.

After Saturday's game against a tough opponent our team ranks fell in 19 of the categories tracked by the NCAA, but team ranks rose in 16 of the categories tracked and in 4 categories the rank did not change. This is what you'd expect after an evenly matched game statistically, which is what we got against Georgia.

The biggest rank improvements:

* We are now 4th overall in 4th down conversion percentage, up 38 spots.

* We are up 28 spots to 44th in Punting Net Yards.

* We are up 26 spots to 33rd in Punt Return Defense.

The biggest rank declines:

* We are down 16 spots to 107th in Fourth Down Conversion Defense.

* We are down 12 spots to 53rd in turnover margin.

Another interesting take away from the stats rankings:

I had heard the Coach Jancek had a bend but don't break philosophy of defense. I really don't know if that is his core belief or a necessity based on personnel, but it sure shows up in the stats.

First the bad:

Total Defense - 79th
Third Down Conversion Defense - 89th
First Downs Allowed - 106th

But, the good:

Red Zone Defense - 24th

Defense definitely tightens up inside the 20. A lot of credit goes to the run stoppers and to the DBs, but I think they are taught well in techniques that work in these situations.

Hopefully, the overall defensive stats improve as we dilute the Oregon game in the stats a little bit more and keep on improving.

Here are the areas where the Gamecocks are weak in FBS rankings.

They have maybe the worst punt unit we will see this year. Hopefully we can take advantage of that. Overall, their special teams are not special.

They also have shown a tendency to fumble in the run game. These are two areas where we might be able to grab some momentum.

77th in Passes Intercepted, with only 5 picks in 6 games.

90th in Punt Returns, at 5.43 yards per return.

93rd in Passing Efficiency Defense.

104th in Punt Return Defense, allowing 12 yards a return.

111th in Kickoff returns, with only about 18 yards a return.

114th in 4th Down Conversion Defense, giving up 75%.

114th in Fumbles Lost, losing 8 in just 6 games.

122nd in Net Punting at 31.38 yards per punt on 24 punts. That's horrendous.

After Saturday's game, the Vols team ranks rose in 23 of the categories tracked by the NCAA, but team ranks fell in 15 of the categories tracked and in 1 category the rank did not change.

Here are the areas where Bama is weak in FBS rankings.

70th in Fumbles Recovered

75th in Passes Intercepted

75th in Turnovers Gained

85th in Pass Sacks

100th in Team Tackles for Loss

That is pretty much it. They aren't getting penetration with their defense and they don't get many turnovers.

Everywhere else they are either good, very good or great.

Please see the original post for updated Vols team FBS stat rankings after 10/26/2013 games.

After Saturday's game, the Vols rankings fell in most statistical categories. Saw improvement in kick off returns though.

Below are the areas where Mizzou is weak:

Total Defense - 66th

Fumbles Recovered - 71st

Pass Sacks Allowed - 73rd

Fourth Down Conversion Defense - 80th

Red Zone Defense - 83rd

First Downs Allowed Defense - 91st

Net Punting - 97th

Punt Returns - 102nd

Passing Yards Allowed - 112th

Kickoff Return Defense - 113th

Scouting report = Really bad return coverage. Terrible pass defense, but they have been able to pressure QBs and get INTs. Our O-line won't let that happen, so it could be a big passing day for us. I also think we should be able to run the ball.

I have updated the top post with current FBS stats ranks. If you have trouble with depression, don't look.

Hopefully, we can pull some of these up the last 3 weeks.
