I will say, this may be the best job of recruiting any staff at UT has ever done, given what they have to sell.

Worried about his recruiting? No. I do hope he is good at math. I want all of this recruiting class.

Backhanded. Wow. I'm typically not a "love it or leave it" guy at all. I share some of your sentiment about the staff underperforming in the Auburn, Mizzou and Vandy games. But at some point, why keep torturing yourself by following the Vols?

Backhanded. Wow.

It honestly wasn't meant to be. I meant, they are selling a program that hasn't had a winning season in 4 years. That's as hard as sell as any staff here has had to make. Is it as hard a sell as Ole Miss had last year? Maybe not. But, if this ends up as a top 2 or 3 class, that's as impressive a recruiting job as anyone at UT has done, at least as far back as I can recall.

In my now 42 years as a fan this is by far the best recruiting sell our coaches has every done if we hold this class together it might be the best class we every had, just think when we start winning 10 games a year just tell the 5 stars to line up and coach take his pick, its time for old nick to start riding in the backseat, coach has shotgun for the next few years, and go to hill that little turd face nick.

OP is great. When Butch was announced, recruiting was my number 1 concern.

I couldn't have said it myself.

Why don't you worry about yourself instead of trying to read something in to every word I write?

I grew up cheering for the Vols. They are pretty much the only team I care about (even though my alma mater is #1 in the country right now). Of course following them has been tortuous for the past several years. I would question the sanity of any Vol fan who hasn't been tortured by the absolute buffoonery that has run the program into the ground or the mismanagement that keeps it there.

Some days I wish I could be like the most of the posters here. I wish I could lower my standards with every loss. I wish I could believe all the excuses you guys come up with. I wish I could pretend that the exceptions are the rule, that warning signs don't matter, that records don't matter, and that teams just go from miserable to good based on nothing more than how much time a coach has.

The recruiting class is really the one thing that gives me hope that Butch Jones can make it here. I can't think of a single coach (in any era recent enough to be relevant or at any level of competition comparable to the SEC) who has had such an underwhelming performance in his first year at a school (that is, 5-7 with several blowout losses and a loss at home to Vanderbilt level underwhelming) to go on and lead them to championships. But, on the other hand, I can't think of anyone who had such an underwhelming first year and brought in such an impressive recruiting class either. So, it gives me hope (and I am trying to ignore the little voice in the back of my head that keeps telling me that we've gone down this road before of signing great talent and trying to use it to cover obvious coaching deficiencies and that it doesn't work so well in the long run...)

It is impossible to turn a program around in the SEC unless you can bring in top notch classes. Sure, you can go from terrible to mediocre like Vandy, but to make the next step and compete with the top teams you have to have the horses.

GBO!

No, too many things can happen in the next two months to safely conclude anything right now.

Saying we won't finish in the top 3 is like saying the EA show will "out of the blue", become more oriented to discussion with callers instead of EA being in love with his self.....and the ramble on,etc
