It's never too early to discuss recruiting. Does anyone know who the Lady Vols are in with for 2014?

As of last week, Jordin's list was Tenn, Stanford, USC, Cal, uconn. She wants to go into neonatal nursing. I don't think Tennessee has a neonatal program.

If education is the prime decision factor Cal would probably be #1. Tennessee offers a neonatal certificate, but I'm not sure if it's a full blown program. anyone know? uconn also has a neonatal program, but since there are 3 calif schools on her list, I think west coast has the advantage. Where did you hear uconn was dropped from her list? Must be within the last couple of days?

There are freshmen, sophomores and juniors on this list. How are they all 2015 commits?
Key word is commit. You can commit anytime. That doesn't mean signing and enrolling in 2015. Two totally different things. Commiting just means you are saying you will sign with that team when it's time for you to sign. It doesn't matter if that's 1 year from now or 3 years from now. There seems to be a lot of confusion on VolNation about what the word commit means. I see this all the time in the recruiting forum.

Yeah, I understand the word commit. But the key word is 2015. Why would the poster consider them all 2015 commits when it is currently 2013? And some of them committed in 2012? And one of them doesn't graduate high school until 2016? And they will enroll (should they follow through with their commitment ) in 3 different classes?

While Middleton has played the point position, I believe she is more of a combo-guard and probably better fits the 2-guard slot.

We don't need another Zolman: she could shoot the three if left unguarded but that is all she could do; she was pretty much worthless otherwise--not a good ball handler, no quickness, couldn't defend. Spani is like her--but better--but Spani has quickness issues herself and can't defend. We need GOOD, quick, talented guards. Summitt in her later years started recruiting these "heady" guards who simply weren't athletic enough to ball--Bjorklund was the same way. I liked her, but her game was limited. We recruited two/three guards out of Indiana who were busts as well. We've got to start getting better guards.

I totally agree. We are headed in the right direction. We are getting more athletic, bigger, quicker, and stronger, but it takes time to build that kind of depth in basketball(& we are building depth). We add four very athletic players to the floor next season in Russell, Reynolds, Tucker, & the healthy return of Carter.

I just want a knock down shooter. Hopefully we can pull one from this 2014 class.

We do need shooters for sure. I think we had in the past (Zolman, Jackson, & Spani are examples) shooters that couldn't defend the whole floor like the rest of the team, so we need athletes that can shoot. Baylor, Notre Dame, & UConn have them and we are getting there.

We want Russell shooting lay-ups and free throws, but Reynolds, Tucker, and Carter all can shoot it and drive, plus all are excellent defenders.

The returners are alomost all the same way. This depth provides the coaches with the ability to sit anyone who doesn't want to run, defend, rebound, etc.

Russell shoots that ten to 12 foot turnaround shot as good as any post I ever seen. Tucker has a three point shot and so does Carter. I haven't seen Reynolds play but hear she is quick off the dribble and can drive. I am looking forward to seeing her play for the first time Wednesday.

This is actually one of the best shooting UT teams we've had in long time. Spani, Williams, Burdick and Simmons are all good shooters--though Simmons is certainly erratic. Everybody else has a pretty nice stroke and can make jumpers. I can't remember when we had group like this. So we can shoot. Our weaknesses are that we often don't pass the ball well--we did today, for sure--and we're soft defensively, especially at guard. When Harrison is healthy and playing well, our defense is a lot better.

Do you think that Tucker will be able to contribute next year? If so, this team will have a ton of depth.
