Haha it's fine, idc...get sick of seeing Cals name everywhere.

He's not signing anything, could always switch between now and senior year.

He's called UF a "dream school" and Al Horford is his mentor. I'd still guess UK because of the PR Olympic team, though... Hopefully the US team comes through for us with Randle.

I'm not sure how much a commitment means this early on, though... I think this is around the time Austin Rivers committed to Florida. That didn't mean very much, although we somewhat dodged a bullet there.

Dodged a bullet? What did I not hear or am forgetting about rivers?

Duke is better without Rivers. Boynton and Rosario are accused of being ball stoppers, but Rivers is the definition of a ball stopper.

Oh ok...I thought he was pretty good and could think of a few games they won because of him...guess Ervin walker>Austin Rivers though

What does Walker have to do with Rivers? I'm not upset that we didn't get Rivers. Beal played the same position and is the much better player. But back on topic, my point was that commitments this early mean just about nothing...

Someone told me today that FSU will get a verbal from this kid soon. Why is he announcing so early? I don't know much about him or haven't seen much but 2015 that's set to announce soon seems too early?

He basically he and his father have stated that he knows where he wants to attend college at abd does not want to worry with it anymore. Kind of strange. Some have pegged him to be the #1 player in that class.

From Zagsblog:
"The 6-foot-11 sophomore from St. Joe’s-Metuchen (N.J.) will announce his college choice at 10 a.m. Dec. 4 at the high school."

JMO: He may want the option to reclassify; committment may be part of his plan to make it happen. Earlier you start academically, the easier to reclassify.

Puts his chosen team/HC in a unique position. Got to expend the resources for several years to keep the recruit happy, i.e., top recruiting priority. Yet with the push of a button, he can decommit and leave the coach hanging 'cause they have not gotten "in" with other position players. Of course, if he signs, it's all worth it.

This has "Calipari" written all over it. What better way to kick start his 2015/2014 class than with a commit from the #1 class and #1 BIG recruit?

Hope I'm wrong; ABK and King Kal.

This is a scary situation because Cal does work magic.

I've heard that Towns(who was born in 1995 and should be in the 2013 class) will reclassify to 2014 and then do what Jarnell did my graduating early to be eligble by the second semester of the 2013-2014 season. By default he automatically is eligible for the 2014 NBA Draft where he'd be a Lottery pick.

Will be tricky with the NCAA but Cal has had plans of putting together this college dream team for awhile now before he heads out the door.

Naw, still has to be a year removed from HS. Same reason Stokes didn't have the option to go to the draft after last season.

LOL, I love the timing of this. Cal needs to throw the frothing Kentucky hoards a bone after slipping out of the top 25, to quiet them down. So a 16 year old kid announces that he's committing to Kentucky, and the Kentucky fans attention is diverted.

I can't remember the last time Cal accepted a commitment from a kid so far out from college, but I guess there is no time like now for him.

The Dec 4th announcement date has been set for months.

Jarnell didn't have the option because he was born in 1994, which made him eligible no matter what for the 2013 NBA Draft.

The 1 year removed from HS stipulation for the NBA Draft doesn't represent a full 12 month year. It represents if you graduated in the previous calendar year whether in May like most kids or December.

Karl Towns by default of being a 95' born can enroll early at Kentucky in January of 2014 and still be eligible for the 2014 NBA Draft.

This is what was explained to me by a Kentucky fan.

This announcement date had been planned for awhile.

Towns would announce he was going to Kentucky, & reclassify to 2014 from 2015.

Cal plans to sign 2 more recruits.

Towns is 1 of them.

He's going to sign Andrew Wiggins in the spring, and keep a scholarship available for Towns when he enrolls in January of the following season.

Cal is a mastermind behind this dream team Kentucky team.
