Tennessee basketball’s good fortunes got another lift Friday afternoon, adding the commitment of three-star power forward Derrick Walker.

The 2017 big man, listed at 6-foot-8, 220 pounds picked Tennessee over Georgia and St. John’s, reported first by Scout.com director of basketball recruiting Evan Daniels. Walker later announced his commitment on Twitter.

It's recruiting. This is the recruiting forum. Can't get mad though it did confuse me.

Prob saw the tremendous job Coach Barnes has done with Williams and Schofield (And Fulkerson, before the injury). This kid is taller that both Williams and Schofield, so Barnes is probably licking his chops to start coaching this kid.

Like music to the soul! This young man and one more quality big body in the paint, and Coach Barnes has the tools to start making serious runs. Pumped!

Welcome young man.

You must not follow basketball recruiting. We already have a 6' 10" guy signed in the 2017 class. Damn good player too.

Lol he knows. We're thinking about red shirting Kent maybe adding a grad transfer down the road. Not the right guy to say he doesn't follow basketball

I don't very closely. Just watch the games and see the roster and the coaching. If so, that's awesome. This kid looks like a bruiser. We need the interior presence.

If we get a commit from an undersized 3 star LB, everyone loses it...but way to go Rick...yeah!!!!

We're recruiting basketball players. Not getting the damned into heaven or hell. Come on guys. Lets stay on topic. Derrick Walker. 6'8 power forward just committed to Tennessee. Lets act like we're a little excited to have 2 guys over 6'5 committed for next year.

I'm just happy to have a couple of big men finally coming in to bolster the front court, although our current small big men are playing like they're 3-5 inches taller.

Nothing against the guys we have committed. With what our young guys are doing i hope the recruits start taking notice that Barnes can still coach is butt off. I want to see us battling for top 25 players every year.

Yes Special Ed and hopefully the 5 star point guard at Brentwood Academy and 5 star forward at Ensworth are taking notice. Both like Barnes and Tn has a chance

I asked in the Basketball forum and I was ignored. Must not be one of the Kool kids. When can he sign?

Whoa! You boys got way off topic.

Walker's build reminds me of Howard Wood. Hope he rebounds and plugs the middle like Howard; and helps us get 3 wins against Kentucky in the same season like Wood & Company in 1978-79.

Mr. Walker welcome to Big Orange Country!
