Dan Mullen-Florida
Chip Kelly-UCLA
Jimbo Fisher-Texas A&M
Willie Taggart-Florida State
Joe Moorhead-Mississippi State

Matt Luke did a solid job at Ole Miss considering the circumstances-probation, scholarship reductions, etc. Kind of got screwed as they fired him as soon as the penalties ended also.

Pruitt is the most horrible on that horrible list.

Bryan Harsin with how bad Auburn looks may wind up fired before the Alabama game. I think Georgia Tech head coach Geoff Collins will be fired when GT gets humiliated 70-0 to Georgia to end the season.

If Florida had hired Frost, Tennessee would have gotten Mullen and we probably never get Heupel in 2021.

The butterfly effect of coaching hirings and firings in college football is unrivaled.
What if Tennessee had hired NCSU head coach Dave Doeren? I have the feeling Dave wouldn't have made the progress that Josh has made and would have been more like Butch Jones.

No need to insult Doeren by mentioning him in the same sentence as the horn blower

Doeren would have won just enough (7-8,) games a year that he wouldn't have been canned for a good while given our recent history. He would have never bottomed out like Butch did.

I think Doeren is a good coach. I also think that he is exactly where he is supposed to be . He seems to be a guy who is like the Mark Stoops of the ACC. You win 7-9 every year, you have a +.500 record vs UNC, go to a bowl and everyone is happy. I don’t think Doeren would’ve made it beyond 3 years here. I don’t think he would’ve meshed well with our fans.

The Chad Morris saga at Arkansas is the most baffling to me. He clearly made progress at SMU and helped push Clemson towards what they’ve ultimately become. Assuming he’s not that terrible of a HC (and maybe he just is) I have to attribute it to a massive personnel issue in the transition from Bielema to him. I’m not sure you could be more opposite in style or scheme than those two were and Arkansas was not built at the time for his offense. At 2-10, basically, in back to back years he had to go on paper but I wonder if given the time to get his guys in there if he would’ve turned it around. Pittman brought in Briles who runs a similar offense and look at the success he’s had relatively immediately, with Morris recruits/personnel.

It's a cliche but it's true...Pittman appears to have brought a true culture change there. Which I think is a sophisticated way of saying "The players really like him and he makes them feel confident." He also hired experienced coordinators (Briles and Odom) with track records of success at P5 jobs, which was really important for him because Pittman had been a position coach his whole career.

Morris inherited a team that was absolutely not built for his scheme, but one of the biggest jobs of a coach is to make do with what you have, especially if you don't have recruiting classes under your belt with "your guys." Maybe he's an offensive version of Muschamp; great coordinator but not head coach. I honestly was not blown away by what he did at SMU as their HC. I know they were horrendous when he took over and he turned them into more or less a .500 team by the time he left, but I was kind of surprised he was able to parlay that directly into an SEC head coaching job.

It is easy to see problems in hindsight but I do see why Arky thought he might be a good head coach for them, particularly with his Texas high school ties.
