2020 Presidential Race

Sen. Josh Hawley has designs on the 2024 Republican Party Presidential nomination, and he is (too obviously) pandering to Donald Trump's core base of voters. He is trying too hard. His agenda is transparent, and he is coming across as a Trump flunky. That can easily build the perception that he is a follower, rather than a leader. It's not a good political strategy from someone who has ambitions of becoming the President of the United States.

I love it when ex-trump and ex-cruz flunkies get in cat fights on national tv. I still think she had more than a professional relationship with Cruz.

Every time I see one of these Republican Senators on TV claiming this charade by them is "not about Trump, its about voting integrity" I fully expect lightning to strike them dead right on the spot.

Meh, they will be judged for their lies down the line.

They'd be safe with steel beanies topped with lightning rods. Dims may have delusions of grandeur, but they haven't harnessed or bottled lightning.

Lol awesome. Rafael is so gearing up for 2024. Can't wait until we hear from his competitors how he threw his own wife under the bus to lick Trump's boots.

That's because the Republican party is in a crisis of identity. Trump's faction is struggling to maintain control over the regular party. But I think they've learned their lesson and won't make this mistake again. Once Trump is officially out of office, the Republican party will put some controls in place to prevent another Trump cult figure, incompetent and unbalanced as he is, from doing this to us all again.
They would have to be honest with their voters and take some flak. I’m not sure they have that in them.

Dems objected to the last 3 elections Rs won. Boxer objected in 2004
[QUOTEIn 2005, Durbin said on the Senate floor following Boxer's objection that "Some may criticize our colleague from California for bringing us here for this brief debate. I thank her for doing that because it gives members an opportunity once again on a bipartisan basis to look at a challenge that we face not just in the last election in one State but in many States. ][/QUOTE]

Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), also praised Boxer in 2005. In a press release, Van Hollen said at the time, "I believe that Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-OH) have performed a very valuable public service in bringing this debate before the Congress. As Americans, we should all be troubled by reports of voting problems in many parts of the country. I have been particularly concerned about the lack of a verifiable paper record in connection with electronic voting systems. I am proud to be a co-sponsor of legislation to solve that problem."

More likely scenario, imo:
They'll tie it in a larger package and claim it's safeguards against socialist Dem presidents.
Throw in some extremist rhetoric from Hawley and Cruz to appease the radicals and pass it with support.

Then live on a razors' edge until some crime against Trump is uncovered. Publicly, they'll carry on about deep state conspiracies but breathe a huge sigh of relief in private.
