The loss of Blade Tidwell & Seth Halverson is a huge loss, But Teams have to deal with injury's every year. I personally am Hopeful that both of them come back and are able to contribute for a deep post season run. Let's be honest, this is a huge tax on this team. But let's take a few minutes and look at the rotation.

Chase Burns - I am hearing this guy is legit and has electric stuff.

Camden Sewell - This guy having the stuff he has is really good and I personally could see him in the rotation. I think He could be a huge key to the puzzle, and I keep going back to his lights out outing at Hoover. Also, could see him come in as the replacement of Sean Hundley's role last season. Either way, I think he's a huge piece for us.

Chase Dollander - Another big addition to the staff that I think is going to have a great year.

After these, this is where things get a little interesting for this staff. And personally, I like what we have.

Really no certain place to start but let's start with experience, then we will talk about stuff.

Mark Mc- the brief outing's he's had in the last 2 seasons will pay dividends, with his frame and build, I think we could see great things from him. He's got good stuff as well. Would not be surprised to see him log a lot of valuable innings.

Kirby - He's looked great in the fall, and I love his demeanor and honestly the outings he had last year, I think pays dividends as well. There is no substitute for experience. I feal like he could get you some really valuable outs.

Redmond - Experience , Experience , Experience - not electric on his fastball. But after seeing all the velo guys mentioned earlier. Just another huge piece of the puzzle in my opinion. I personally feel like there will be, as always, some close games. And I am talking SEC experience. I don't believe you have to throw 95 to get outs.

Will Mabry - I could very well see him log some innings and have a lot bigger role this year.

Ben Joyce - 103 speaks for itself. Yea, he was hit some in the fall, but also consider this He was fresh off an injury, and they had him mainly throwing the heater. You mix in some off speed with that heat. Could be LIGHTS OUT. Not proven yet but very exciting to say the least.

Jake F - I think he's got SEC stuff and could come in and factor in as well.

Ethan Smith - transfer - don't know a lot about him but coming from Vandy, can't be a bad option. And adds another arm. Which is always good.

Wyatt Evans - Big frame lefty - I could for see this guy being considered for some time in SEC play by the time we hit that Gauntlet. He really impressed me this past fall. As a matter of fact, I want to go on record as saying "Wyatt Evans will be a highly touted prospect before he leaves UT" - First Round Guy!! You heard it here!!

There are several great arms in the pen that I haven't mentioned. And all will have their chances.

I predicted that UT would be an Omaha team in a few years ago and they made that prediction ring true. And that prediction was based mainly on the arms they had at that time.

Is this team an Omaha team? I personally think with Tidwell and Halverson. I have said, they had a really good shot. But after evaluating the current situation. You have to tip your hat to the job of this Coaching Staff.
I have been following UT Baseball for a good while now and I love the depth of this staff. I really do.

Let's be honest too - the 2021 team provided moments that may not ever happen again, You have to say WOW to a lot of AMAZING moments. One thing that's lost in those moments is how well we Pitched.

This team again has a shot because of the pitching staff and Hey, this line up, may just come up with some more
MOMENTS!!! It's Got Me EXCITED to be a UT BASEBALL fan..... I can't wait!!!!!

Huge loss no doubt .. when you know you are throwing 3 guys on weekend that are gonna keep you in the game .. to loose 2 of those hurts very bad ... and its a pitching game .. good pitching beats good hitting ..so these injures probably knock the Vols down a few notches in standings .. unless a unknown commodity steps up BIG time .. too bad .. Tony had it all layed out but you cant do anything about shoulders ..Im sure he is just shaking his head ..

One point that I would like to add, keeping the ball down in the strike-zone and let the defense do the work is key . . . if we have a really good defense behind the pitcher's good thing will happen! I happen to believe that we do have a good defense!

I believe!!

I'm hearing real good things about Joyce from the inter squads. While the 103 mph is getting Press, his FB has been riding 100+ consistently. Has a couple off speeds and they are under control. Remember the video from the Fall, 8 FB's in a row at 100 and his control is there. He's K'd batters big time over the past 2 weeks with only a walk or 2. He's getting outs, no hits. I think Tommy J is in the rear view and it's going to be fun watching this kid.

Losing Tidwell & Halvorsen hurts. But remember, the best team on paper isn't the one that always wins. This is a new team. Who will rise from this team to pick up the loss of those 2 pitchers. We will see. Go Vols!

Just out of curiosity I looked at the roster for this year, and Burns isn’t on there. Anybody know why?
Edit: I guess none of the freshman are on there yet

Was told that Tidwell’s injury is an impingement and he won’t be out long.

For those who need to look it up too……….😊

impingement
[imˈpinjmənt]

NOUN

  1. intrusion into an area belonging to or affecting someone or something else.
"the creeping impingement of the digital world into our lives"
    • medicine
a painful condition caused by rubbing or pressure on a tendon, nerve, etc., by adjacent structures.

This team is loaded now. Better staff than Vandy. They are having to start relievers because their talent has dropped off so bad. They are hurting. Ethan Smith would have been the Friday guy there. He left becuase he was disgruntled over the way he was treated during his Covid illness last year. Basically held him out and away from the team for weeks. If he gets in shape, he will step in and replace the Tidwell loss and then some.

I was wondering about our pitching staff after I heard the news today. Great write up OP. I might stroll over to campus a catch a few innings Saturday

Depends, if it's due to the structure of the acromion and if that is causing the irritation and inflammation. Nothing points to it being a possible persistent issue but I was a regular for cortisone shots due to mine being a chronic issue. Prayers that isn't the case for Blade.
