Some thoughts on the incoming transfers. Ohio State center Felix Okpara was extremely impressive. He’s 6-foot-11 and his arms are extremely long. Combine that with him being a great athlete and it’s easy to see how he blocked 83 shots last season.

Okpara doesn’t have a very versatile offensive game but he is truly an elite lob threat and dunker around the rim. His offensive ceiling isn’t as high as Jonas Aidoo’s but defensively and as a true above the rim finisher, I believe Okpara is an upgrade.

Good read

So stock up Igor and Okapra. Stock slightly down maybe Lanier and Dubar as they're not best at creating own shots and getting to basket. Overall team has a bunch of shooters and will be running through ZZ. Unknowns due to injury Carr and JP.

Carr and Estrella injured?
Yeah, it sounds like it is precautionary.
Sophomores Cam Carr and JP Estrella both didn’t go through practice with minor injuries. Carr was out for the second straight day with a sore knee but isn’t expected to miss much time at all. Estrella has a bone bruise on his left foot and will miss more time than Carr but it isn’t anything serious.

Looks like starters vs backups. Score would reflect as much.

Also, this sounds like a familiar assessment.

Okpara looks like he's been in the weight room quite a bit. Looks way stronger, more built than Aidoo was at this point.

Looks like he'll give most opposing centers problems with his size & strength alone which is what we missed last season. Add in his shot blocking ability, I think he's a solid upgrade on the defensive end.

On what stands out about the team to this point

“I think that we are faster, which we played pretty fast last year. We have a lot of guys that can shoot the ball, spread the floor. A lot of guys, or I (would) say some more guys that make decisions off the bounce. I would say probably a couple more physical drivers, I would say. Got a lot of guys that can make plays with the ball in their hands as far as dribbling, passing and shooting at a high level. So it’s a different dynamic. Something different than we’ve had here in the past. Some guys that change us a lot offensively, and defensively with our length. Because where we’re not as tall and beefy as we’ve been in the past, I would say we’re longer, lankier and athletic. So we got a lot of guys that are really good and give us different dimensions. We haven’t had here.”

On making the transition from North Florida to Tennessee and playing at his level, in the SEC

“It’s definitely a different game — more physicality — but I feel like my game will definitely transition pretty well. We’ve been working every day in practice and going at it. I’m surrounded by great players who get me better every day and push me to my limits, so I feel like I’m in the right place.”

On the most eye-opening moment for him since he arrived at Tennessee

“I’d say the most eye-opening thing is definitely the tempo of the game. It’s more sped up. And that’s just the way we play here at Tennessee, but I’m adjusting pretty well.”

The Arkansas game will be interesting!
