Hi Vol Nation,

While I posted the other day some of my thoughts about how the conference had unnecessarily delayed adoption of a 9-game conference schedule in 2024 which may have better integrated our new conference members (Texas and Oklahoma), I realize for now the 2024 season schedule is really a moot point… I do hope the conference will expand to 9 conference games in 2025 though for the good of the game/conference in these changing times… just me.

I saw a few video’s/stories out there from “professionals” (those who make their living explaining things to simple fans of schools/CFB like most of us), there were a couple of interesting ideas out there ( I’m certainly aware that come 14 June we’ll all be told what will happen in 2024 as far as schedule).

I do like the idea that every existing team will face either Oklahoma or Texas as part of the “interim“ 2014 SEC schedule. What actually was a bit more interesting to me was an idea I thought of where the SEC commissioner would simply say to teams in the conference that they could only pic “1” rivalry each to preserve. In other words, each program would be allowed to pick their most important/must have game for 2024 then the conference “machine‘ would fill in all the other conference games.

I’m guessing it would be a little bit of game of thrones. In VOLS case, I’m guessing that many would guess that both Auburn and Alabama would choose the Iron Bowl leaving VOLS wondering if they should choose Vandy as the must-have game or pick Bama for the annual 3rd week of October match-up. Who knows what either the Commodre or Bama AD would actually choose?

So… asking you VOLNATION, if you were UT’s AD for this 2024 choice, who would you pick as the “must-have” game for the 2024 season? Vandy, Alabama, Georgia, Florida… heck, perhaps Ole Miss to get some payback for 2 years ago.

The choice is yours… at least today😁

Does anyone have any information about the way schedules will be configured? Once you choose your preferred opponent, how are the other games selected? Who will make the decision and how?

It is a no brainer. Tennessee vs Alabama. I can't believe you put Peabody U in the conversation.

Tennessee should play:
#1-- Alabama every year NO MATTER WHAT
#2 -- Georgia
#3-- Kentucky
#4-- Florida
Peabody U needs to leave the conference. They bring NOTHING to the SEC.

While I'm on a rant. Missouri also needs to leave the conference. They bring very little to the conference. And if I was dictator I wouldn't allow Texas and Oklahoma in. This 16 team conference is another nail in the coffin of College Football.

It should be clear from the last several years that the CFP committee does not value strength of schedule highly. Why would you want to move 2 W’s off the schedule while teams like southern cal, Clemson, Ohio St and Michigan cake walk to double digit wins?
I’m all for keeping the big boy matchups on the schedule but why would you make your schedule harder than it needs to be when nobody else is?

I'm a wrench guy, so if they are gonna ask and presumably both schools have to ask for each other. I vote Texas!

Why, cause it makes the least sense and it will force the powers that be to earn thier pay and make the choice instead of be scaredy cats!!!!!

Tennessee has been playing these 4 teams every year for a long time. These games are all rivalry games. It is one of the major appeals of SEC college football. Why do you want to go to Tennessee vs. Peabody U every year?

Ok… so far we have following votes (not quite sure what game BearByrant wants):

1x Bama
1 x Texas
1 x Ole Miss
1 x Vandy

Time is running out for your pick of the game you would like to see in 2024….

For whatever it’s worth, I think I’d prefer to rack up an 3-peat against Gators (even more than a 3-peat against Bama). It’s probably a bit silly, but I haven’t got quite got enough of my fill yet especially when I can still remember that clown Muschamp saying he was happy to see all of the sad VOL fans in Knoxville (gators shouldn’t have won that game… Ugg). A curse on those Gators!

Go VOLS!

…and before division play started, we hardly played UGA or Florida and we were playing long-standing rivalry games against Auburn and Ole Miss. Times change.

Ok… while a bit disappointed myself, really seems that everyone really doesn’t have an opinion for who they want our VOLS to match up against in 2024.

I guess we’ll all defer to SEC commissioner and ESPN to simply tell us VOL/SEC fans to just STFU and just play who they decide we should play.

I’ll play:
Vandy
Kentucky
Alabama
Florida
Auburn
Texas
ole Miss
SCarolina
(so I dropped UGA and Mizzou and replaced them with Auburn and Texas With Ole Miss as the west rotator).
