We are currently outbid, and AZ seems likely. We’ve gotten a lot more sophisticated in analyzing player investment/ROI. I think that’s a positive long term, but it’s cut us out of some younger players due to risk being higher against return. I won’t say we’re all the way out of this one, but it seems likely.@Stoerner Fumbles any recent news on Burries? Koa Peat just committed to Arizona. Playing with him is probably a nice selling point.
Kinda what I thought. The Peat news seems to further work against us, as well. Oh well. We better knock it out of the park in the portal. We are currently outbid, and AZ seems likely. You also have to consider what is Tennessee’s hit rate on those Top 10 guys? Seems like every time we’ve landed a five star we talk about how disappointing they are, Barnes is tough on them and so their success rate is going to be lower here, are they worth that $$$ when a veteran guy is likely to produce at a higher rate and be ready for that coaching?
Many folks are thinking few top end HS recruits who fetch a substantial NIL$ are value recruits compared to top portal guys as both likely stay 1 season and the portal guys have several years experience and physical development. Might become they future trend with P4 programs.I’m just going to assume that the uncertainty around Barnes combined with the lack of a top tier NIL (I know we won’t overpay, not saying we should) is killing our high school recruiting. It really seems we should have more momentum with top-end high school talent than we have these past few years.
