Gwynn was in Knoxville for Tennessee's spring practice back in April. It was a trip up with his teammates to checkout the Vols. It was a perfect opportunity to see what college football is like first hand. "I just watched the defensive linemen," Gwynn said. "How they pushed themselves to the finish on each and every play. Even though they were tired, they pushed themselves to the finish. I was watching coach (Tracy) Rocker and coach (Chris) Rumph and how they coached their players."
At 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds, Gwynn showcases plenty of athleticism for a prospect that has size coming out of his freshman season. He's on a team with 2022 quarterback Tevin Carter and 2020 offensive lineman Chris Morris. They are a young group at Freedom Prep, but Gwynn says leadership comes in all ages.
He's constantly working on his craft, participating in developmental programs like PURE and NPA. He's driven to be the best and understands that if the work doesn't take place that he will never get to where he wants to be. "I do a lot of bag work and 8-drill," Gwynn said. "I use the bags a lot trying to work on my hand quickness and placement. I think that's where a defensive lineman can really make his biggest impact is using the hands to free myself up."
So what have PURE and NPA taught him? "It means hard work and being the better person and player," Gwynn said. "Just growing as a young man. Being smarter and getting better with each day." As for the next offer, Gwynn isn't targeting a specific school, he's just grateful for whatever offers come his way. "I really just want to get out there and compete," Gwynn said. "I don't really care which offer comes next because I just want to work hard and I know if I do that, all the rest will take care of itself."
