Surprised he is in the top 25 as of right now with having to revive a program t-baged by lyle. I think when he finally has a full roster of his players, he will crack the top 10 though.

Glad to see some positive news for the Vols, but I don’t see how they can rank him above guys like Whittingham or Patterson at this point in his career.

Ranking the Top 25 coaches in college football
I totally agree with you, but these kinds of lists are always "what have you done for me lately."

Pruitt finished the 2019 season strong and is currently going berzerk on the recruiting trail. Gary Patterson's last 2 seasons have been duds. Whittingham had a really nice season last year but it ended with a thud.

Pretty generous for a guy with a career .520 winning percentage as a college head coach.

"We’re currently in the midst of a Tennessee recruiting flurry but I’m not letting that cloud my judgment on the guy with 13 career wins as a head coach. What has me more optimistic is the way he’s come to those wins. It looks like Pruitt is building Tennessee to last. He’s recruiting at a high level, in the right places. He seems to be building a team with the foundation to win at the highest level with consistency. When success comes, it won’t just be a flash in the pan given the disciplined approach to roster building and the on-field product."

Seems a fair assessment. Im guessing Pruitt is getting the attention because they can see he is building all the right components to have a strong program, not just a good year or two. He is creating repeatable processes and a system that will churn out consistent success, even if it is a little off a year here or there. Sound like anyone else that Pruitt has coached under? It helps that Pruitt is considered a talent spotting guru, since that will eventually (actually right dang NOW) will pay off with a long line of top recruits wanting to get in at TN. With the assistant coaching staff we have, you gotta like our chances the next couple of years - and that is what excites the commentators and is beginning to seriously concern other coaches.

There's no way anyone in there right mind can put Mark Stoops ahead of Pruitt. Pruitt hasn't lost to him yet, and we beat them handily in their best year under Stoops. He's good for Kentucky, but that doesn't mean he's better than someone that keeps beating him.

Opinions will change when Tennessee goes 9-3 this season and Kentucky goes 6-6.

Seems like the past few years, the experts have always put KY ahead of TN.

You can say TN has always had their down years but they’re still miles ahead of KY.

The whole list has some head-scratchers

Pruitt, nor any coach, who doesn’t have at least three years experience under their belt should be on this list. There no way of truly gaging how could of a coach someone is after 1 or 2 seasons. Ryan Day being listed as one of the top ten coaches in the country is laughable. I’m guessing that the author would have put Larry Coker in his top ten after the 2001 season and we all saw how that ended up.

Stoops has steadily improved at Kentucky with the exception of last season, when he had (literally) no QB and played most of the season with a WR taking snaps. Still, he went 7-5. There is no argument that Pruitt, to date, should be ranked above him.

There are many on that list with whom I completely disagree. What is the fascination over Dan Mullen? Has the guy even won a division? I think he is so overrated.

Agree to disagree, but I fully understand where you’re coming from.
