I think Chris Low has read VolNation a little too much. Sounds like something he got from LWSVOL, Sab, LV, and myself.
As long as we hadn't hit the 85, why not? Is the article incorrect?
He stated it wrong, IMO. EE's are new scholarship players, and you can only put 25 new players on scholarship each year. You can back count to the last class, given if you don't hit the 25 that year. So, if we had only enrolled 20 last year, we could back count 5, which means we could sign a total of 30 and get them all in by fall. The 85 number is relative, but the way he stated it, he seemed to say that you could get 20 guys in and you could sign 28 more. That's completely wrong. You still have to hit your numbers, and you can only back count so many guys. The other one's do apply to the 25 that you can get in. Which means, we signed 25 total this year and back counted 2 of those guys, so it was 23 total new enrollees for 2010. Now, we could sign 27 total again, with 2 back counting to get to 25, but that's where the 85 number comes in. You can only hit 85 total, but there is always attrition each year. So, we will know by next December how many we can sign. I think it's going to be somewhere between 22-25 total for 2011.
I am not real sure how it works anymore. I've always thought it was what eric is saying now, but Auburn signed 32 this year. Something isn't right.
I think we will be able to sign 28 with the 3 backcounts. Going to be alot of attrition imo.

I think we hit the 85 limit first. 81 on scholarship now. 16 seniors grad gives a limit of 20, which can be adjusted by guys leaving early, quitting, etc.

Posted via VolNation MobileThe 85 limitation is easier to get around than the 25, I would think.
Next year our hard number is 27+3. We will be limited by 85, but that can be attained by pulling scholarships from guys that don't cut it by enrolling time in 2011.
I think USC's number was 17 this year because they were limited by the 85, but they signed 20. Either they greyshirt, sign and place, expect some attrition, or pull schollys, if 17 was their limit.
