#3 car to return?

If anyone can make that decision it would be Earnhardts' best friend Childress. I personally see no wrong with it, Dale would want it this way.

I see no problem with it at all especially since we aren't even talking Sprint Cup yet.
And even if we were, I don't have a problem with it after all this time since Dale's passing.I wasn't a big Dale Sr fan so maybe his fans feel different.

yes.

the other board i read/post on had to have a thread locked over this debate. that's how intense it got between Sr. and non Sr. fans.

So the 3 could take people decades and generations to get over. Reminiscent of the confederate flag.
(just kidding to any die hard E fans out there. I respect your opinions)

Childress knew Earnhardt like no one else did. If Richard wants to run the 3 then he can. Dale wouldn't mind

I'm a diehard sr. fan but I really dont care who runs the 3. I used to think it would bother me , but not anymore. It's racing .

There are those who will take offense until their dying day with anything they perceive as derogatory, disrespectful or negative toward Dale Sr. Even though car numbers are the property of NASCAR, and are leased to car owners not drivers, these dyed-in-the-wool fans will scream foul to the high heavens. As far as what Dale Sr. would think, it is only conjecture unless he spoke his wishes to someone, and most likely no one on this board. I can only guess he would laugh his ass off over the whole thing.

I would love to see it return, but only if the person driving it has a chance to compete. I would hate to see somebody drive the 3 and absolutely stink it up. Whomever it is better have thick skin because they will be under some intense pressure.

I think it will be odd if anyone other than Jr is the first one to drive the #3 in Cup. I think it needs to come back one day, whether it is him or not

Back when I was a real racing fan, I was a Dale Sr guy. He was my favorite with Martin close behind. I remember standing in the rain for 3 hours at Grindstaff Automotive in Elizabethton to get his autograph. He was why I liked racing. The blue and gold Wrangler car will always be my favorite. Back when I played video games, I'd always make my car's paint scheme match the Wrangler car. I started losing interest after he finally won the 500 and now I just watch highlights. I'm not one of those with the 3 dangling below a halo and I don't have all sorts of remembering Dale stuff (save that autograph somewhere) so perhaps I'm not the hardcore fan, but I'd like to see the #3 back on the track. I wouldn't even mind seeing it black with silver trim.

Never have I been a big fan of retiring numbers for any reason in any sport. Run it. I too was a huge Sr. fan.

We will probably never see it again in Cup. I could care less either way. We all associate a # or sponsor with our favorite driver. I could care less what colors or # the drivers use. Thats not why I pull for the drivers that I pull for. I do feel sorry for the guy that is the first in Cup if it is ever used again though. Most Earnhardt fans are so die-hard that is all they know and I could emagine some of them would go insane.
