Definitely not an aggressive one which is constantly challenging the defense.

Force the refs to call some fouls. Get to the line. Be aggressive. Act like to you want to win the game.

Three foul shots total.

One in the last five seconds of the game. The other two in the other 2,395 seconds of the game.

A "must win" game plan. Really?

TN doesn’t attack the rim. Awaka played well and went up strong, but Vandy played good D. The big men for Vandy pounded the ball inside and were more physical. They missed some easy shots but were def more physical than TN.

This team only wants to shoot 3's. When we get in the paint, we either pass or dribble it back out or try shooting a fade away jumper. (no foul will be called) Our players should get it to the paint & attack the rim. You may get your shot blocked, but if you take it up strong you are likely to get a foul called. That is what teams are doing to us! We also guard the arc a little soft, & teams are making us pay by knocking down 3's. Teams are now coming all the way to the arc to guard our 3 shooters, so we have to shoot the 3 several ft behind the arc. (lower % shot) We need more movement in our offense, & set more picks!

Robbins blocking every shot that came in the paint (without fouling) is what made us quit driving the ball in the second half.

One time they face planted Key and Ref looked at it and watching it over his jaws looked to ready to blow the whistle, but UT ended up with the ball. He swallowed the whistle; this is what I call lazy officiating. We have some good respectable refs that are just human and non-confronting and take the easy way out on opposing courts. It is what it is, a hard job that few want to do, you just hope they're not intentionally making bad calls because they don't like or favor a coach or team or they're colluding with gamblers to keep the score a certain spread like the Boston College year where some went to jail.

Yep, they keep saying we are the #1 D but whoever is teaching Vandy to play D like that and go a complete 2nd half with 1 foul until there was 18 + seconds left, and they started the 6 intentional fouls. This Vandy team should be labeled the #1 D being able to do that but then you look, and the same team lost to Alabama 101 to 44. Are we that much worse than Alabama or did Vanderbilt throw that game on a betting super spread in Vegas, just inexplicable.

I didn’t understand no shots on a foul on a lob. That’s 2 FT’s in any other arena.

The rule, as I understand it, dictates that a shot attempt is not a shot attempt until the shooter has the ball in his hands. So, assuming you are talking about the Robbins foul on Nkamhoua in the first half, he fouled ON as the ball was in the air, and ON never had it, therefore it wasn't a shot attempt. It's really no different than if ZZ had passed the ball to him 15' from the basket and Robbins fouled him going for the ball.

There were some absolute muggings on Phillips and Santi in that game. No calls. Definitely one to file a complaint on.

We got him in foul trouble, and then we let up on him. We should’ve stayed aggressive, tried to pick up a few more fouls in him and taken him out of the game. Instead, we took him out of the game by staying away from him which affected our game.

Thanks for the clarification as I had never really looked at it. I thought the foul was much closer when ON was touching or attempting to touch the ball.

However, I know it’s a different league, but I’ve seen that as 2 FT’s in the NBA and maybe even in college.

We took 19 threes out of 60 shots, that's not a lot at all. We were fouled fairly consistently in the lane, and they just weren't called. We got away with some fouls on the other end as well, but not close to as many as they got away with (clearly, given the foul differential until the had to foul). It was a physical game and the refs let Vandy get away with too many overly physical plays, while we did not get away with them. Certainly not the worst game I've seen officiated, but clearly not a consistent whistle being called.

The never drive it and shoot jump shots offense.
Yep this!!! Nkamhoua was content to shoot turn around jump shots against Robbins. Everyone else is a jump shooter. No drives. Only person who was in the paint with contact was Awaka. He played well although got too anxious on a couple of occasions. Phillips gets fouled more than anyone but he only took 5 shots. And should have been 6 (the no dunk).

Fouls occur when the defense is out of position. Personnel wise we don’t have anyone who physically attacks the rim. Zakai has the quickness but is 5’7. Everyone else is either slow, not explosive, or not physical. Personnel isn’t built to draw fouls.

We also do not push the pace at all to get advantageous situations or fast breaks, so again, defense isn’t out of position and rarely fouls. Our style isn’t built to draw fouls.

Then we have the post guys. And every once in a while Rick actually tries to get the guys a chance to be physical and get fouled. Auburn is a great example. Cardwell was out so Rick goes into Olivier 5 straight times to start the game to get their only post guy in foul trouble 1 on 1 dump ins to the post. We get 5 straight fadeaways.

From personnel, to style of play, to general mentality of our players we have nothing that is conducive to drawing fouls.

We have no slashers and don't seem to consistently recruit them. ZZ tries but doesn't have the size to be effective. Phillips is the closest to effective we have and he doesn't usually go up through contact due to his slight frame. Mashack could be but doesn't have good enough moves or handles. Keon, Springer and Chandler are the only guys we have had in the last few years who were effective at attacking the rim.

Dillione looks to be creative at attacking the basket but doesn't have elite athleticism which might limit him. We definitely need to try to recruit more to different styles of players....seems like we load up on very similar guys and don't consistently get speedy guards or guys who can create their own shot when needed.

At times Aidoo had a guy who is 6'5" guarding him and he was hanging out at the top of the key and was totally ineffective.

If your offense relies on SEC refs to call fouls, you’re going to lose half of your games.

Teams that physically and athletically attack the basket draw shooting fouls. That's not us. It's not some SEC officiating conspiracy.

I mean SEC refs are not consistent in how they call fouls game to game (which to be fair it would be impossible). Look at our game versus Auburn compared to our game versus Miss St. At Auburn they weren’t calling anything, including shoves out of bounds. If you can’t shoot, you won’t win as many games. That’s why Arkansas is so inconsistent on offense

It’s not a conspiracy to think that Doug Shows doesn’t ref the same as Tony Greene, for instance

To your point, if a team tries to attack early and gets hard contact without a whistle, they tend to go away from attack mode down the lane to prevent the empty possessions. Also the uncertainty from an offensive standpoint about charging calls because you just never know how those will be called. Also, what is the defense giving you inside? It’s easy to say “just attack” but situations dictate that, too. I’m curious during SEC play how many points in the paint we’ve gotten and what our opponents have scored agains us.
