Nebraska
Texas
Southern Cal

Each of them have been historically good and as recent as the last decade and a half, have been more than nationally relevant IMO.

Not sure any of them can make it back to a top 10 program within 3 years after a coaching change, but I'm certain each of them has one coming on the horizon.

In regards to Nebraska, I just dont see how they can keep him after this year. Maybe even cut him loose mid season.

Guess we'll see.

Unless Mike Hamilton's clone is the AD at those schools, all 3 will get a significant upgrade in their next football coaches. I think all 3 can get back quickly with a decent hire.

Texas is a hugely over rated program. They have 4 National Championships and only one in 40 years.

It'll be interesting to see the implications each hiring process has across the college landscape. None of these schools can afford to just hire an assistant, or coordinator. These Alums and fans expect to get top tier guys. And they're all gonna go after big names.

I think Jack Del Rio and maybe Jeff Fisher get mentioned for USC

And Aggie fans - if Johnny FB does leave after this season --- Sumlin to Texas

What's the Jeff Fisher connection to SC? I honestly don't know that back story? Is there one?

Pretty sure JFF is gone, but I have a lot if doubt that Sumlin leaves. I bet he gets a few phone calls though.

If Texas was smart, they'd go after Strong IMO.

He's played and graduated from SC...but anyone claiming he'd leave the NFL is out of their minds, IMO. Fish is as dialed into the NFL as a coach can be. He's coached in the NFL for nearly 30 years and makes upwards of 8 million right now.

I know SC has $$$, but that's not happening, IMO.

Thanks y'all. I honestly didn't know that. It would take a ton to get him I believe. Maybe too much, but you never know. He want to go "home" and wind down his coaching career in a more laxed environment.

Lotta possibilities I guess.

Thats why I put maybe --- I think Del Rio is the top choice right now (although the fans want Gruden :eek:lol:)

At this point, although I love him, I'd like to see Gruden go to a tiny school and just wreck shop. All the big boys would be so pissed.

USC definitely has the $$$ required to land him. IMO, it's just whether or not they want to pony up. After the Kiffin experiment I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

Why wouldn't they pull Muschamp back?

Meh, why would he go? Other than $ which is obviously a key, he has a better shot at playing for more important games at Florida. Hell, if he could coach some offense and get a QB, he could contend for the East within a year. Texas is a bit back even with the "5*s" they have coming up.

It would be a step down IMO but it would be more $.

What matters coach?

And TN hasn't been overrated significantly in the polls but one time in the past fifteen years. Texas has it happen yearly, along with USC and Notre Dame

I dunno; I'd say 2 times if we're just talking preseason, 3 if we're including 2008's preseason ranking...maybe 4 if I were to include 2000(...I don't know whether or not to include last year's brief ranking though)

(Not defending the others; just saying its been more than once for in 15 years for us)

To be fair though, they only have four because they refuse to claim anything that wasn't awarded by one of the major polls (Coaches, AP, or BCS).

If they did like most of the other schools do (us included) and claimed years where they just received championship recognition from minor polls, they'd have another 3-4.

(Similarly, if we only counted championship seasons awarded by the major polls, UT would only have 2...1951 and 1998.)

Yeah I don't see them speaking to Sumlin unless he expresses interest to them first...otherwise it sets up that situation of "coach gets to go to the fan base and media to tell them all how he turned down a rival school's offer because he wants to stay at this school."

I could see them going after Strong though, yeah.

well on the one hand, TX and UF both have awesome in-state recruiting, prestige, etc....all the makings of a top 5 program, competing for the big dance on an annual basis.....I would venture that UF has a tougher schedule ON A YEAR IN, YEAR OUT BASIS....UF will play FSU, South Carolina, UGA every year, and they could see LSU/Bama in the cross divisional game....TX see's OK every year but thats the toughest one normally....so maybe their conference schedule is more conducive/easier to 10 plus wins, at least in most years

I think the only huge overrated year was obviously the 2005 one. 2008 was based on the fact we somehow were a TD from beating LSU, which I can't really argue with because it at least had some logic behind it. As for 2000 I can't say much about, I was only ten haha.
